Incubators Anonymous

the lady who tried the bra incubator didn't have heat to the outside of her bra- and the eggs didn't get warm enough- maybe heat packets to the outside would help.

Please tell me that this isn't a thing. Please tell me that no poor soul has an egg stuck under their boob and thinks that will work for 21 days. What in hippie hell??? Lol. I got an incubator you can have if it's all like that!

But it will be a DRY heat. We had temps like that summer. 113 was a record high EVER here. I don't know that we had much rain in Jan.... but it is starting Feb off.... most of the week is rain here

ok.... sleet, fr rain, snow by morning but I don't think it will last.

Pssshhhhhttt! Not from mid-July to mid-Sept, those are our monsoon months where we get rain and humidity. Granted, it isn't like the humidity of say...when I was in Illinois or Florida in the summer...but it is pretty sticky!

Our problem is that the news/weather channel get it's temps from the airport, which keeps their thermometer 30 feet off the ground. (Dh works at the airport). So when it says it is 110* out it can actually be 130*++ because people walk around on the ground, not 30ft up in the air. Stupid.

Awesome.. funny isn't it how when we want Roos we get pullets.!!! I'm sure there will be plenty of roos in there. BTW: Blue is looking much better, he looks ready to resume his roosterly duties so no need to panic..

Question for all of you.. I am in the market for a cabinet incubator. At this point I would rather buy one than try to make one! So, I searched BYC but could not find any newer posts comparing Dickey and Sportsman (the two brands I have narrowed down). I've read, from older posts, good things about both. Any comments about either? I'm leaning towards Dickey because it is lower than the 1502 (which is the one that I want from GQF). But people's experiences with either/both would be greatly appreciated!

you might start your own thread on this subject- because before you know it someone will be visiting about something else and you will say "hey I didn't get my answer!"

I have a 1502, I love it, it is actually simple enough to repair if you need to, (i had to replace the fans in mine) . The only thing that is a pain
is that i don't have the automatic water pan filler so when i put eggs on lockdown I fill the water pan with a plastic bendy drinking straw stuck
through one of the holes and duct taped at the other end with a funnel so i don't have to open it (i only do this after the first pip). For me the
water tray lasts only about 1.5 days before i have to refill. I will probably get the auto filler sooner or later. I also don't have the plexiglass door
so i use a little inspection light to shine inside to see how the hatch is moving along. I run it pretty much continuously as a hatcher and incubator
and this doesn't seem to affect the hatch rate, i get good hatch rates.

Thanks! I was wondering how these work as far as "staggered" hatches, which is what I would plan on doing. Do you think the plexiglass door is worth the $ to upgrade?

After the garage fire and the loss of my chicks, I broke down and bought a Brinsea EcoGlow 50. Then went to Walmart and bought the biggest tub. I like the plastic because it is so easy to clean. I did NOT want my husband to have to do anything towards getting a brooder ready when he has so much to do already. Our house is 4 yrs old. We found out last night that the outlets in our kitchen bar are tied into the lights in the garage so they won't work either. The insurance adjuster came for a bit today and said there was more in there than what they thought and they would have to call in a "super ajuster". At least the company that is going to take care of some of the cleanup (LeCato Interiors) has sent 2 men to work on more of the cleanup and he is getting a pod here to put undamaged items in after they have been cleaned.
To top it off, I found where some water had come into our guest BR we thought from a leak in this 4yo roof????!!!! Now we think maybe the snow came in around the roof cap vents. Never-the-less, more crap to worry about!

I have 1 chick...I think a black bantam Faverolles...but hopefully some standard blue salmon Faverolles will be hatching on the 5th! More eggs coming and about a dozen chicks as well next week I think!!

PS...Brinsea is having a sale.
