Incubators Anonymous

i bought 2 goats and 3 piglets this morning

i am on soda crackers til payday

mmmm pulled pork. you could eat well this week lol
Mine is a Sulfa?????? I think it is stronger and that is why the smaller dose. I think I picked it because it covers more things too......
is that the same as Sulmet? Sulmet is multi purpose but really strong. I have some. used it once and worked great

I was using Sulmet for the recommended dose and days and it appeared to be too strong for a couple of my birds or in effective for their condition. That, or they weren't getting to it enough. I think I will try something new suggested. has anyone heard of the eye drops for Mareks vaccinations?

Question for all of you.. I am in the market for a cabinet incubator. At this point I would rather buy one than try to make one! So, I searched BYC but could not find any newer posts comparing Dickey and Sportsman (the two brands I have narrowed down). I've read, from older posts, good things about both. Any comments about either? I'm leaning towards Dickey because it is lower than the 1502 (which is the one that I want from GQF). But people's experiences with either/both would be greatly appreciated!
My unscientific stufy of people tslking about shipped egg hatches has dickys in front on % by a considerable margin. Plus mr dicky is cool I am a fan.

I saw you had a low rate on those white Bresse, i was thinking of hatching some of those, is that normal with that breed for shipped eggs. Also how are they as chickens go..
No it is not typical my breese had one of the best hatch rates on the eggs I shipped.
Sulmet is a sulfa drug.... I don't use sulmet it is a larger dose than the stuff I get. Sulfadimethoxine https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/medicine-chart

Sulmet is very hard on chickens and can do permanent damage to the internal organs. Only use it if there is no alternative. Maraks has to be injected from everything I have seen or read.

that info is in the link I provided and it has a list of drugs for different issues. I only use that sulfate drug. cures them quick every time.

I am not blaming a breed at all.

That was random shipment. It could have been vibrated like crazy or dropped cooked or frozen along the way.

I bought shipped bresse eggs and gifted them to a friend in New Hampshire who had a good hatch.

Other factors I have to deal with are 2 flights totalling 7500 miles and a 2 day delay in setting because of it.

Sometimes ebayers may not exactly be shipping eggs less than 3 days old - they either forget or dont care that those eggs are on the road for additional time.

Mareks must be injected. Its easy to do but you need to be prepared - The reconstituted vaccine is useless after an hour.

I bend the rules only vaccinate once a month. I time it for my most important hatch as day olds. I then give it to all the other chicks - I do keep them in my isolated egg house until I inject them.

I vaccinate for Mareks, NCD and Fowl Pox.
