I am soooooo frustrated! Set 29, only 10 made it to lockdown! 5 hatched but had to cull 1 cause its intestines were hanging out.

So, I have 25 chicken eggs and 9 turkey eggs on day 7 in my new Genisis Hovabaotr. I sure hope I get a better hatch rate with this one!! Wow!

Same here! I've set just under 100 shipped eggs since 2/7. Of the two sets to hatch, I've gotten 18% and 6% hatch-just two actual chicks. Of those still cooking, I've culled almost two dz. I've had contant bator woes (low temps bc a thermostat went out and missed temp spikes) and an ice storm that knocked out power for four days. Last year I was a newbie and a got 90+% hatch. Thinking I had it down, I went a bit crazy buying eggs this round. Looks like that was beginners luck and I'm going to spend this spring killing chicks with inexperience :( Burnt out at this point and ready to Craigslist the bators!

step back, relax.

my advice is to get some local eggs and hatch them alongside shipped eggs to act as a control group. that way you will know if it was the eggs or you.

On the advice of many threads here, I sent five of my own eggs with the last batch. I pulled one for clear and One died during lockdown. I haven't decided if that was enough eggs to prove good technique or not. I have what I thought was my most promising set of set of shipped eggs locked down on day 22 right now. On say seven, I had 100% veining. After the ice storm, I was down to seven. Also looked great on day 18 though maybe a day to two behind. I assume because of the time lost during the ice storm. I'm trying not to worry that they have been lifeless since lockdown. I do have one small external pip this morning but that's it. Not hopeful at this point.

was the original hatch in a genesis?

No. An old LG. Had a MAJOR temp spike 1 day, and no idea why yet. Just received the genesis a week ago. did day7 candle earlier, and pulled 3 clears. looking good so far, but of course, itll be an experiment to be sure it was shipped with correct settings.

Im going to buy a new thermometer for the LG and see what happens. Im wondering if the issue wasn't actually a temp spike, but the thermometer going kaput. Cause I panicked when I saw the temp ALL the way up, and turned the bator down quickly! thinking maybe the thermometer was just having a crazy issue, and maybe I just never actually got the temp back where it belonged. Who knows! LOL

i gave up on the styrofoam bators and i sucked it up and got a sportsman.. it changed my life!!! BUT if i had to go back to the styrofoam i would use OZexpat's digital temp controller fix instead of the darn silly little knob in the center..
