Incubators Anonymous

My 4 live chicks that hatched Wednesday, I kept noticing when I walked past their brooder they would be standing there staring at the side. Like A LOT! I thought what the heck is wrong with them!

Yesterday I went through my 1 week old Sizzle project chicks and moved the 5 who for sure won't make the cut into the other brooder, they are all for sale as mixes.

This morning I walk by, and all 9 are doing it!!! Then it hit me! Its a blue colored see through tote and very shiny. They can see their reflections in it!!!! LMBO! I'm such a dork!

My hatch is just about done.... but the turner caused the top to pop off some of the baskets (it was too full, my fault) and there
were chicks mixed up allover the hatcher, it's almost impossible to tell who is who!! Yikes...

My name is Harlee and I am a hatching addict as well.. I thank god that I have a pretty awesome ag teacher that also happens to be engaged to my brother because she lets me continuously bring in eggs to hatch! But I also have an incubator running in my room non stop, right now we have 5 golden comets, and 1 buff brahma bantam. We've been trying for months to hatch a buff but it always turns out that they aren't fertilized.. I'm pretty sure my rooster is sterile but he's just so cute so it's okay!:)

he may need the feathers around his vent trimmed - ot you and your ag teacher can try atrificial insemination.

I was wondering what is the best/easiest way to separate them during hatch? I think I have 4 or 5 kinds, but I have 2 of the styrofoam incubators and a couple of the kinds only have 3-4 each.

Just checked again today, day 11 and it was really cool to watch the chicks move around in the eggs!

if they hatch different colors, no probs.

i use small baskets. you can also make a hardware cloth divider to sit just below the fan/heat element

I have some little baskets made from hardware cloth and aluminum tape, they are great but i started using
two little organizer baskets clamshelled together and these are the ones that popped open..
