Just finished a hatch on Monday, very stressful one I might add. My temp and humidity went crazy during lockdown. Several thermometers and hydrometer all read different results. First 10 to hatch were great then the others all had problems sticky, couldn't pip, ect. After eggtopsies, many were mal positioned, some were just quitters, one actually tried to pip backwards and some appeared stuck. Ended up with 19 live chicks out of 32 set at lock down. The ones that were glued in, I had to assist. 2 of them died since and they were smaller than normal as well. I was so down as these were all shipped and pricey eggs... I just thought I shouldn't get any shipped eggs for a while until I improve my hatching rate but.... Well I just couldn't help it... setting for the Easter hatch along this weekend.

coming from 'been there done that' hand feeding day old parakeets is a LOT of work... every 2 hours round the clock for the first week or so and then gradually weaning to 4 hours to 6 and then to 3 times a day by the time they're 3 or 4 weeks old, then weaning them off by the time they're 8 weeks or so to once a day, if that... and they're not parakeets, they're piranha-keets. those little buggers will latch on hand hang on for dear life to anything that resembles YOU. LOL (not drawing blood, but hanging on good and tight)
Not that it would bother me. If you saw the Minions and what my schedule is with them..... parakeet babies are easy....
Bah Nah Nah

Went to bed with 5 pips, woke up with 9 & 1 zipping!! Bout time! I was getting nervous! The one zipping pipped 20 hours ago!! Lol
Congrats! I've had them pip and not zip for nearly almost 2 days. Talk about drive you insane waiting. Sometimes I wonder why I even did it again but yes it is an addiction. Starting up the incubator again after last year is bringing all the anxiety back. I can't wait until next week! Talk about putting the cart before the horse, I don't even have my brooders ready, they are out in the shed stored. I better get my butt in gear. The difference is last year I had them in my addition but don't have heat going this year so everything is in the living room making a big mess.

Lol Yeah, our tv hangs on the wall, & my incy and hatcher r on the tv stand below it. My brooders r in my kitchen!!! Talk about. ALOT of cleaning!!! There is a small breakfast book kinda place away from everything, but they r sooo dusty, that I have to scrub my whole kitchen 3 times a day cause I worry what may be where, but invisible. Lol

I HATE hatching with eggs laying on their sides! The 1 hatched of course is playing soccer with the rest. Pretty sure one that had started zipping has drowned cause it didn't absorb its yolk, but cannot see cause its laying on the only non zipped section! Drives me NUTS!!! And its only a short walk!!!

Just hang in there! Its like waiting for your grand kids to be born. The floor has a groove in it and your nails are all worn away! lol

but its well worth the wait!

Well. Its hatch day!! This morning I already had 10 of 17 Buff Orps & 2 of 4 EE's.
Had a major humidity drop overnight and a BO that was half zipped when I went to bed was dried up and STUCK, but still breathing. So I assisted. Idk if it'll make it, seems pretty weak.
Another EE has popped out, and the 4th is pipped. Lost 1 BO egg yesterday, so just 5 left that haven't done anything yet!!! Gonna KILL me waiting to see if my drop in humidity last night killed the rest!! :(
