Incubators Anonymous

Everyone should have a hatcher. Makes life so much easier.

I have a Brinsea and a circulated air styrofoam with auto egg turner that I'm using as incubators. Those two together give me a capacity of 6 dozen.

I have an old styrofoam still air I'm using as a hatcher. It's working well for me. My own eggs are hatching at better than 90%. (shipped eggs not as good, but that's to be expected).

I thought i was going to be good and shut down hatching then i just had to get some turkey eggs, and some FBCM because you know turkeys need some chick around to teach them to eat,,and I found 12 eggs that my hens had some how managed to lay in my youngster hiding area it only has a 3x4 inch opening....so didn't want to eat them and well why throw them out so in the incubator they went..

my husband is an enabler he tells me to get whatever I want....he is a big man and extra roo's just sound like BBQ to him..

Candled the turkey eggs again with DH. We tossed 4 since they were clears. We have one that neither of us can figure out. It has a mass at the one end. Not sure about it so it was moved to the recheck in a few days after we marked it.

Have been having a hard time catching up with all the threads so thought I'd give an update.
After the last hatch I decided to tear down the Hova-bator and put the guts into my home made steak cooler bator as the turner fit perfectly and the foam is 3 times the thickness as the Hova was and was sick of having to take the seams in order to keep steady temps and humidity. So here it is, full with eggs, set 48 Prod Eggs, 18 SS, 7 BLRW and 8 EE to hatch on May 15th.

Also the other Home made bator and the Brinsea.

Here's some pics of the chicks hatched so far this year. From a few weeks up to yesterdays hatches.
My last hatch in the Brinsea was 11 set and 11 hatched, love the Brinsea more than words can express. Always gives me good results.

Few weeks old BLRW

Easter HAL chicks along with day olds. Speckled Sussex, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Easter Eggers, Barnyard mix.

Day old BLRW hatched yesterday

Day old. BLRW on left and Americauna x BLRW on right. Wonder if it will feather out with lacing, curious to find out.
