Here's my two broody's. They both have a mesh curtain now I think they actually prefer it, just for the fact that the other hens don't bother them now. I gave my las test one, the Cochin, 11 white silkie eggs. Figured she should be able to handle those, they are so tiny. Plus it's one less day they would have to sit and wait for my other eggs to arrive.

So my Coolerbator is pretty much full, making it hard to turn eggs (they are all in cartons with the bottoms out). I was thinking about just elevating one end of the bator instead of turning, how high up does it need to go? Like a phone book, 1-2" or a bit more than that?

So far I have one baby in the brooder, and a second little externally pipped. He's been rocking for hours, and cheering away, but has yet to zip.

How long til I know if he's gonna need help?

Here are some pix of baby number 1. Her name is Flutter.

Give it a good twelve hours..the ones you have to watch are the ones with no external marans ten too get too big or the shells are to hard to make and external and they die from no air..I had a dorking take over 24 before it decided to hatch then came about 90% out and took a nap shell dried to the little guy who was scooting around stuck to the egg just yesterday.. strongest chick now..some just need more time in the shell.

I got a new egg yesterday!! Idk who laid it though! Lol It was this tiny little thing, of course it was in my bantam pen. So it was either Momma Silkie started laying again, my sultan started laying, or 1 of my 2 other silkies that r just coming of age. Lol gonna be watching close the next few days!
ETA Either way, it'll be going in the bator in a few days! Yay!!!! So excited for new babies!

Can't wait to see my momma hen with some babies, just one more week!

Yep, its a little experiment i did . It was only supposed to be 3 duck eggs, but the hen added 8 of her own. So far so good!
