My first little baby quail!!!!!! He's so itty bitty i just cant get enough of him!

Still waiting on little goosey to hatch, just at the pip stage. Have three other quail all pipped with one just starting to zip.

Cute. What kind of quail? I thought they all had spotted shells like mine (cotturnix).

I assume that's a bobwhite. They have white shells. IIRC their yolks are also white. They look really strange when you break them open.

They're snowflake bobwhite

You never know what you're going to end up with when you start crossing chickens. There's a chick in the incubator almost exactly the color of Red Velvet Cake. I don't know which cross it may have come from. I'll try to figure it out when I take the chicks out of the bator.

THis means you need to try try again, right? to figure out that cross.

My chicks escaped and they're sooo happy that I don't have the heart to catch them. I sent my 9 year old out to give them water and he opened the hutch door and they just piled out. They are 7 weeks old and huge, like almost as big as my laying hens. DH says the big girls will beat them up. 5 big girls beating up 28 chicks? I'm just gonna see what happens. They were squished and miserable. Its HOT here. Now they're free ranging. First thing they did was hop on the edge of the pool/water dish. And they're all wet splashing around.

First little bobwhite didn't make it, not sure what went wrong. He was dry and running around in there all day. .....I have two more that popped out this evening, sure hope they make it! I did end up assisting my little goose, who is now nice and fluffy and cheering on her two siblings that have started zipping.

Does this happen to anyone else? When you pull chicks and empty egg shells out of the bator, there are more chicks than shells?
