Incubators Anonymous

That's what I do too, but you have to be very careful to keep good records. My hatching calendar for september..

Love the calendar! I keep good records so nobody is due to go in the hatcher until the previous batch are hatched dried and in the brooder. I do have 2 batches that are 1 day a part but I will be using my "hatcher" and then the starting incubator to hatch them out so they each will have separate incubators. I will be making a third, much bigger incubator for Spring.

I have to tag the chicks, and hatch same breeds from different sellers separately so as to keep my genetics straight..and keep similar looking chicks apart until they can be tagged. So my hatcher is divided into private 'rooms' LOL!! It's confusing, but once everyone is in the brooder, they are marked and I don't have to worry about mixing them up.

This is my first hatch, first incubator. I downloaded an app for my android phone called Hatchabatch. It's not terribly fancy, but it can track multiple batches and puts alerts on my Google calendar for candling, lockdown, etc. Everyday it has a note as to what is happening with the embryo. Oh, it also has presets for different species and custom settings.

Hi, thanks for your comments.

Just thought id let you know. We are at day 21.5, all have pipped, saw the first one slide out this morning, a healthy looking black chick (Plymouth Rock) and the second shortly after, a healthy little fuzzy yellow thing... (3/4 plymouth, 1/4 buff Orp)

The hatches have been clean so far, nice dome zipped off, no red navels, not excessively gooey, no stuff hanging from the chicks.

Seems lower humidity in the first 18 days has helped.

I'll let you know about the other 4

Yay chickens

Yay for the chicks!!!

I had a great day today. My first sale of birds. Got rid of 27 excess birds and freed up a ton of space. You know what that means? Buy more eggs of course.

I have Swedish Flower hens in the incubator but I'd really like to get some good Basques. I had only one and she was a total delight. Not afraid. Walk right up to me. But she was "culled" by a predator.

They excel in hatching and the heat (coming from Spain). And the eggs ship well I hear. I sold all my egg layers. The rest I kept won't be laying for a couple of months. I have to BUY.

Of course! Humph to predators! And Ugh, about buying eats (to eat)!
I'm sorry for your loss!

I MARK HATCH DATE ON MY EGGS TO KEEP THINGS STRAIGHT

Smart! I think I'll do that from now on.

I was asking about this somewhere else. I'm glad someone developed an app for that! I'll have to check that out! TFS. =)

Quote: My hatcher is HUGE. I can do a couple of hatches at the same time. Life is just easier if I set eggs just once a week. I have hatching baskets. I put each set of eggs in its own basket. i can do more than one breed if they don't look alike... for example WL in with BLRW. But I can't do BLRW and Rhodebars or Partridge Rocks.... they are all chipmunk striped so just keeps confusion down.

I no longer hatch eggs like this. I use egg trays and keep the eggs upright. I also use shelf liner in the baskets now. I put a paper towel under and the the liner. It keeps splay legs down.
