Incubators Anonymous

Shipped eggs question for those advanced hatchers:

Which way should I turn my eggs?
After allowing the rolling air cells to settle/ reattach, I now have some very severe saddle shaped air cells. The bubble only rolls from side to side within the saddle - about 1/2 way down the egg. (No rolling from front to back.) I just set the eggs standing inside the cut egg carton, but will not turn them during tonight's incubation. When I do set them in the autoturner, should I go from side to side (direction of the saddlebags where the membrane is loose) or from front to back (where the membrane is tighter - or will this rip away the only good spots)?

Advice?

i would say avoid the 'sloshing' movement, so set the eggs so the air cell is least movable.

Input please ! Best digital cabinet style incubator

gqf incubator and hatcher...the buckets are a must...keep this in mind...and get extra pads

i have hatched out a couple hundred now and only have had the incubators for like a couple of months..i have gotten over 50 percent thru mailed eggs...average hatch is about 70 percent....works great

Well, the good news, got hold of GQF today and we managed to get the turner working on the swapped controller. but he said it's likely that the temp may hot hold stable on the other one because of the damage it took... if that's so, then a new controller is $200. crossing fingers that it doesn't quit until I'm done for the season.

Well I'm hatching out a lot of silkies to add to my flock. My husband gave me a limit on how many total chickens I can have at any given time. Chicks not included. So I showed him my flock count, using chicken math, and he's not buying. If I can find a legitimate school that teaches the concept he will allow it but not before LOL

Roosters don't count, so you can subtract those. The silkie formula is every 3 hens equals one chicken, so you should be good

Also, regarding chicks: Any chicks that are on the small side: Don't count. They might die. Any chicks with a white dot on their head don't count b/c they're male. Any chicks that are more interactive or inquisitive don't count, b/c they're probably male.

Easter Eggers don't count, because they were purchased as Ameraucanas, therefore not a real chicken. Polish don't count because you can't see the hens eyes. Cuckoo Marans don't count because most people think they are barred rocks. D'uccle don't count because Jean Claude VanDamme was from Belgium, and my hybrid layers don't count because they are over 3 years old now. I need another incubator
