Hello...I am an incubating addict...yesterday I fell off the wagon and started a batch of eggs in the incubator. 12 Delly eggs. Not sure if I will ever get back onto the wagon lol.

Any other addicts out there?

Hello my name is Michele and I am a incubating addict. I have 4 different settings as we speak. One incubator in lock down with BCM's. Second incubator with Wynette's BCM's, Silkies, Bob whites for a neighbor and a hen that has resigned herself to sit on eggs no mater what happens, still has not hatched any and she's been trying all summer. I just got done with a hatch on Tuesday, another hen hatch 4 and I got 4.

I need to stay away from BYC auctions, they are my down fall, I just have to win.

I did the same thing, the old man says "hey I thought we just got rid of a bunch of chickens, why are you firing up that incubator? Got almost done with the hatch, when Wynette posted her BCM eggs for a 24 hour auction, of course I was at work and kept bidding till I won, said that will be it, then kelar put a silkie auction up bid now one and that is what I did bid now. I don't have much luck with shipped eggs, I do get a couple chicks and that is fine for me.

I did 10 eggs my first hatch and got 5 chicks, then I did a second hatch with 36 eggs and got 12 chicks, then I did 42 eggs and got only 7. I am just thinking if by some chance I get a really good batch of eggs I would be over run. My only problem now is my ratio of boys to girls. Out of the first two hatches I have 9 boys. Not sure about the last one yet they are too young but I am sure that half or more are boys (it seems like a year for it).

I am okay with sending them to freezer camp but everyone else keeps saying no don't do that they are too cute lol. If I listened to everyone else I would have over 100 chickenss

Hello, my name is Connie and I'm an incubating addict also. Have 9 Norwegian Jaehorns in the brooder that just turned a week old. Setting 12 Cuckoo Marans and 14 Dominques today.
Right along with you ladies, I promised DH the NJs would be the last hatch of the year. And then I slipped and took a look on eBay. I've never bought eggs before on eBay, I honestly thought that I would be outbid on both auctions. But I won. Again

Well, at least we have a really cool variety of eggs in the bator, right?

Wait until next year when I start hatching out in January to have enough boys for us for meaties for the year. I want to have enough for at least 80 birds so that I can fill my freezer come fall with the large ones and have enough chicken so I won't have to hatch again until the following winter (unless I want to of course lol)

Do you know how to butcher poultry? I need to learn how. I'm going to contact a local lady and see if she'll give me a lesson or two. I've got 3 Coronation Roos, 1 Sussex Roo and now 3 NJ roos that need to go, so I guess I'll put them on Craig's list. There's a BYCer in Texas who wants me to ship my Sussex flock to her, but I've never shipped birds, have you?

I am going to do my third batch of birds on October 1st. I have a guy that knows how to do it really well and this will be my first time actually gutting, plucking and cleaning birds myself. I think we are doing 60+ birds in this batch unless of course I end up with more roos that need to go (not thinking it will happen the rest are all pretty small). There are 57 Cornish X in this batch and 6 roos from my house and then 2 roos and a hen from my sisters house that need to go. I have 9+ extra roos that will need to go eventually but they are still pretty small and lanky and that's not even counting my last hatching which are only 4 weeks this week so not sure who are roos and pullets yet. I highly recommend getting hitched up with someone who knows how so that you can really watch in person someone doing it. It makes more sense when you watch then watching a video on you tube.

I haven't ever shipped birds so I am not sure what goes on about that. I know that the larger they are the higher the shipping costs are to ship. No one but USPS will ship living things though so I would talk to your local post office and they would be the ones that would be best to tell you how to ship them. I had someone ask me for one of my roos from my last hatch as well but I am in New England and they are in Virginia so we decided not to do it because neither one of us has shipped live before. I did put a roo on craigslist but so far no takers even though he is listed as free. If nothing comes up he will become dinner because I can't keep extra roos around as cute as they are lol.

Hello, my name is Rita, and I am a hatching addict. I sure hope by admitting this that I have to quit.

I have in lockdown sizzles,frizzles, and silkies in one bator. Yesterday my BCM came in and there are 12 in that one. I won more silkies, and EE, Seramas, and OE on the trade side. Didnt know that I won a bid on more EE on the auctions they will be mailed on Monday. We just sold 21 adults so that we had room for the new fuzzybutts. Did I mention that I have 12 peafowl? Do I have a problem? Naaaaa I just love my chickens.
