guess you got the same PO worker in the mid-USA that I got! Mine came from Maine to CA, and the box was similarly shaped, and had 'odd' delivery...
not once in 7+ years has the PO delivered to our house, they only delivery flat mail to our locked box down at the end of the road... I have to pick up boxes... yet this one showed up, in my barn of all places... soaking wet from the rain that odd day... with one corner crushed, and yolks dripping... and the 'yuk' smell too...

yikes... well i can help narrow it down, this box went from MO to VA...

curious what you ordered from maine. that's my home ground. tho i don't know anyone that ships eggs except one guy/gal(?) i met off ebay. up near lubec i think.

hubby's on his way home so i'll find out in half hour to an hour how bad the eggs are. think i'm going to start filliing the 'bator now tho with what i've got. not much sense in waiting. if they're good a few hours difference probably won't matter much. but think good thoughts for em please.

Sounds like the PO didn't want to suffer the rotting smell of damaged eggs. How ironic. The USPS workers smash them but the USPS workers don't want them held at their PO. When are people going to take pride in their work again?

THe people at my PO have always been great to work with. Not speaking for the people who sort the mail at big facilities.

I'm going to bag the idea of hatching leghorns from fertilized eggs from TJ. Decided I need a red rooster to make sexlinks and a white leghorn can't do the job. Still want white leghorns though.I will order a few chicks for October delv. Just don't tell DH.

Fingers AND toes crossed for you ki4got! One of my bantam cochins has gone broody. Decisions decisions. Do I give her eggs? Do I give her the bantam cochins due to hatch out next Monday so she goes back to laying sooner, thereby giving me more eggs for my incubator? Hmmm.

I got two packages of eggs in the mail this morning. The package with the Maran eggs were leaking, and there were 4-5 eggs completely SMASHED!! How on earth do you SMASH 5 eggs??
