Incubators Anonymous

Good point on the age of the styrofoam! I guess I will pass on this one. Driving wise, it's about the same as getting my boys to a soccer game. Not sure what my time is worth! Always too much to do and never enough time, and I don't get paid for it. LOL

Did you pay $100 each or total, including shipping?

my total including shipping was like $105. for BOTH.

Wow was that a special price or is that their regular price. I might have to pick me up a second incubator at that cost then I can run an incubator and a hatcher which would really make life easier.

I left the other eggs in there but the temps have gone crazy so... but I don't think there is much hope.

That's it so far the rest are still cooking but so far nothing is happening.

Oh I forgot... I sold some hatching eggs to a lady that had a broody Sex Link and today 3 have hatched

Some are a day behind but she has been a good mommy! One surprise to me she got what looks like a white EE? I have not gotten one??? All of mine have been black or Black Barred. Maybe it was really a prod red.

That is my plan. CHookschick, from what I understand, runs several LG and transfers the eggs each week into another LG that acts as hatcher. That means, I need 2-3 incubators more!!

I've got 18 eggs in my 'bator now, due to hatch on Halloween! 17 look good, 1 had a blood ring. My first batch out of the incubator, and all out of my own BR's! I can't wait!!!

Does it count that my LG is warming up and ready for eggs????

Actually, I set up the LG as a back up to a hen that went broody, the BO, but she did the job--I brought her dinner tonight and lifted her off to be sure she got a drink and a meal. and peep, peep , peep a nest full of chicks! ! !

I thought they were due in another week! My kids are like pros now, they hustled to ready a brooder, then I trekked out to the barn by flashlight to transfer the chicks to the brooder. Leaving the chicks with a hen is not the best setup around here as we have far too many predators and I can't separate her and the chicks from the flock.

Left the broody sitting on the last 5 eggs --they may end up in the hatcher yet.

Thank you I am hoping for a bunch of girls in this mix we will have to see how they turn out. I really like the little EE mix chick s/he was a cool surprise because I didn't think any of the younger roos were breeding yet. 3 of the roos will be getting processed soon but I might just keep the EE roo around if he makes pretty babies like the one I just hatched.

At the rate I am going, I will be needing one pen for white ee, one for my buff colored ones, and one for Ameraucanas! I love the blue and greenish blue eggs!:)
