everything goes well.

Donna-- You have a hatching job??? Truely??? I'm envious. And about to go thru withdrawal as it looks like the last 2 eggs will not be hatching. WIll give them a few more days though--just in case.

Well, looks like my broody was sitting for maybe 3 or 4 days before i found her, as a number of the eggs look around 7 days or so. there's still a few i can't tell, some of the shells are pretty stained. they all got washed with warm water tho when i brought em in as they were all covered in dirt mud and who knows what else... but doesn't look like it damaged the chicks inside at all. we'll see what happens.

she's got 4 eggs under her, the rest are in the incubator. when it comes time for lockdown i'm going to give them all to her to do what she will. 8) (so i say now... i may chicken out when the time comes. - no pun intended)

i plan on candling daily to track progress. i don't want any stinkers in there so anything not growing normally will get tossed as soon as i'm sure.

on the plus side, my cochins should ship out tomorrow, and i'm up to 5 dorking eggs ready to go in when the cochins do. so far i think only 1 hen is laying right now...

and my next coop/pen should go together this week too. got all the stuff to build it today. but i'm contemplating making it larger than the original hoop pen... we'll see how well it goes. tomorrow after work i'm going to play around with it and see what i can come up with. i don't think 4x8 is really going to be large enough, unless i build multiples, and then with LF it might hold 4 without totally cramping them, a trio is comfortable. and bantams, i had 13 growing in it, but they were also bickering a lot once they got up to size... that's why i started letting them range. we'll see how the 8x12 goes, and if it will work. (still needs to be movable)
