Incubators Anonymous

Lovely pics! So cute.

THis sounds like my first attempt at hatching too. TOrn between LG instructions and dry method. Chnaged half way thru and used a fan to draw off moisture. Probably not the best method. LOL But did get 50 % to hatch, many with help. I figure I'm to blame for the hatching problems at this point so I help too.

I need a bigger incubator.... I got 4 doz hatching eggs from Deb today

Hubby has a panicked look on his face too..... no more roos....

My neighbors finally came over to see the operation we have been talking about. Helen was telling me about these rooster things she collected for her mother... I told her I just collected real roos

Donna, Wonderful to put a face to a name. I did not get home before DH:rolleyes: But at least he didn't yell. The chicks are in a big box in the insulated garage. Tomorrow I will clean a brooder that is outside and move it down to the insulated room in the barn. Love:love My new chickens! New accomodations will be set up for them tomorrow as well. I have a guy coming for all my quail and my reptipro incubator with turners. My credit card bill from Xmas is going to be bad:oops: I am already getting flack about that . Luckily its only once a year. Off to the GI Dr. early tomorrow:tongue

Don't enviy you the GI stuff. I avoided it once... maybe forever.... but I doubt it. Daddy has polyps and some other kinda of intestinal thing I have to keep and eye out for on top of the IBS

) 1 Lonely Plymouth Rock... she quit laying... dang.

Just curious, for those of you in the warmer climes, how well are your girls laying? I'm further north and my girls slacked off from 22 eggs down to 5-7 per day, even under a light.

This is my first winter with chickens so I don't have a reference. I should be getting about 30 eggs a day.... I think I got 8 today. My spring pullets have quit and are moulting some. The only ones I got eggs from today are the pullets from July. EXCEPT the Leghorns in the breeding pens NADA! WTH? They are leghorns.... I didn't get ONE egg from the breeding pens today. Most days I have been getting 11 and have gotten a record 15 in one day.

I have some spring hatch girls under lights and I do get some eggs everyday from them and one hen is out of moult and just started laying again. I expect when the days get a little longer I will have TONS of eggs. I only have 5 pullets/hens under lights and I get 3 eggs most days.... never ever have gotten more.... one is trying to be broody, one looks like she is moulting or she is the roos fav, but I don't think she lays either.

I have the young pullets under lights to help them grow. I think that helps.

We're not a lot warmer Zone 6/7 1 hr south of Philadephia, but have been having a fairly mild winter. I do not use a light and have dropped from 12/day to 1-3 per day. I am accrediting some of my loss of egg production to 1 broody, and 3 lost to a predator which also shook up the flock.

If I borrow an incubator what do I need to do? She has not used it in 2 years but it did work. I will have to turn the eggs so how many times a day do I have to do that? Thanks..........can we spell addiction....

and on a side note, i set 7 dorkings 2 days ago, and got 27 mille fleur cochin bantam eggs today in the mail. they're set now too.

told hubby i asked for a dozen...

LOL he says 'so when we go to divorce court i'll use her as exhibit a?' - he keeps threatenning divorce over the birds, but he likes the babies, the eggs, and in a few months, the meat too... and when i sell some he thinks that's just great, they're paying for feed. sold 2 pullets and 3 adult hens last week (bantam), i've got 9 more babies that will either find homes or go to camp kenmore. and i think another project just dropped in on me... my crele oegb x quail d'anvers chicks are all shaped like d'anvers, but crele color. haven't really looked to see if anyone's working on a crele d'anvers, but they're all adorable. 1 roo 2 hens, going on 3 months old now.
