Incubators Anonymous

OMG you're right! This is like the hot dogs to buns ratio. How many bags of 8 count buns do I buy with how many packs of 10 count hot dogs so that I don't have any orphans? I need more incubator....

Is a 60 watt equivalent in a compact fluorescent enough? I'm using a 100 watt incandescent from 3am to 8am, then natural daylight to 4pm. I'd put it on at dusk, but the days are getting warmer and it pushes the coop temp to 50 F plus. If I use the CF bulb, I can extend their light to 7pm. I only use the incandescent right now to take the edge off the 26 F below zero nights.

P.S.

I've never hatched eggs before. Someone loaned me the incubator. Would this person be considered a "pusher"?

Yes, yes I believe they would be instigating hatching behavior in others lol. Darn that makes me a pusher too I just gave my best friend my extra incubator for her eggs. Oh well at least I now have a partner in crime hehe.

I started collecting my eggs today and they are starting to look like small/medium eggs. Mommasita is still very mad that I keep taking all her eggs. I can't seem to make her understand that those poor babies will not like to be born in a place where it's below zero. She's not buying it. Hoping to get 50 eggs collected by the time I am ready to hatch. They will be Cochin mixed with Brahma, Pure Delly and Delly mixed with Brahma, and Pure Brahma. My main man Rocky sure can get around but the ladies love him and he knows how to make them happy so how can I complain. I have a Delly Roo too named Little Nikki but I really don't think he is getting much action with the girls. Maybe I will have to set him up with a house and harem of his own hehe.

I bought eggs online because my roo is a wimp. I love him but he's whipped. The eggs are going to school- daughter's 4th grade class. I smell disaster coming. Teacher's excited about it, so there's hope. I have 10 "feather footed" assorted coming from Murray McMurray and 12 "blue assorted" from My Pet Chicken. Any input on their eggs? I chose week of 4-16 for delivery and am hoping they arrive close together so I can set them at the same time. If they come USPS, are they going to be left on my doorstep? Will they freeze? I worried less when I was pregnant!

Enabler might be a better word.... pusher invokes images of bad things like drugs... Chicks are a good thing and a natural high no drugs required.

I would not extend them till 7pm with lights. They need sunset to know when to go to bed. You can get 100 w equivalent in CFLs.
