thank you, but i think i lost my 1 buff in the hatching...
th.gif
was in trouble, moistened membranes and no movement at all... there are more in there and they aren't due til today, but i have wanted them so bad, just really bummed...
hit.gif
hope she/he is just resting, but i doubt it... i don't see heartbeat or eyes opening or beak either...

well i lost the 1 buff orp, and a bantie before they were hatched out of the shell....why is this happening? any suggestions? am i doing something wrong?
th.gif
or were they just not strong enough? i increased the humidity in case they were not getting enough....

the buff had a prolapse, and i lost one of the blackstars that was born last night that had a prolapse.... didn't check the bantie, was just too sad, but another is hatching so maybe things are turning around...

when chicks are hatching, try to keep from openning the incubator too much, as every time you do, you're letting out the precious humidity that is allowing them to continue hatching.

that's why it's called 'lockdown' from day 18 on, you don't open it to do anything. chicks will be fine for up to 24 hours post hatching without any food or water, since the remnants of their yolk sac have been pulled into the abdoment during the last few hours of hatching.

and the 'prolapse' you mentioned, is most likely the yolk sac that hasn't been pulled all the way into the belly.

ok a repost for some who may not have read this entire thread, or somehow just missed it...

pete55 has a series of threads/articles he's written that are a MUST in my opinion, for anyone seriously interested in incubating and hatching eggs.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/595007/incubation-and-hatching-guide

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/632744/guide-to-humidity-and-weighing-in-incubation

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...t-of-damaged-and-mal-positioned-egg-air-cells

the titles for each are pretty self-explanatory. i re-familiarize myself with each one now and then, to remind myself of things i may have forgotten...

his incubation guide is also in the april/may edition of backyard poultry magazine as well, if you prefer a hard copy to go back to.

and if you're reading this pete, thanks again. you'll never know how much help you've been.
