Incubators Anonymous

Looks like I get to have another hatch yet for this summer, a custome just bought an entire hatch that is due next week! I guess I will be adding more eggs in with my dozen buff orps and the June egg swap eggs. Than I WILL shut the bator down for at least a month!

Mmm Hmmm just keep telling your self that dear it will make you feel better

In all honesty I filled the jars and not the built in troughs and put sponges in them now I make shure everyone has a nook deep enough to keep them from rolling and I put my sons yo you under one side of the bator for a few hours then the other side and so on. I always put new shipped eggs pointy end down in egg cartons and I also have some eggs that have been in there longer but have funky air cells that need to be in cartons and I have the bob whites cuase the shell is so then they are to easy to crack on accident. I think things would fit in there better without the cartons but I want my shipped eggs to have as much chance as possible. So far 53/70 from emvicrey (spelling sorry) ?? and 27/35 from crazypetlady shipped and growing so I want to keep those numbers good and I found in my not at all exstensive experance that egg cartons at least for the first few days really helps.

I keep mine in egg cartons too. Sometimew with very good results = almost all the eggs hatching, to fairly poor: 3/12 developing.Of course they still need to hatch.

Where in the world are you going to put the Cuckoos when they get there? You need a BIGGER incubator..... fast!

Hatch update 5 BLRW (1 Splash, maybe 2 blue and 2 black) 1 pipped upside down in the egg carton and died

one more left and it has not pipped

I think I got 3 Lavender Ams

and 2 split, EE, Olive Eggers, Marans Super Blue Egg Layers (all of them hatched but 1)....... 1 Wheaten Am. I think I got about 50-70 chicks.

I too got rid of about 8 roos today..... only to turn around and BUY 22 White Keets

I should never have gone to a flea market with chicks/chickens..... and other such tempting things.

The egg carton thing.... is a double edge sword.... I think it ups the hatches, but the few that pip upside down are DOOMED..... I think I lost 2 this hatch.

I have a mini eco comeing monday and the chuckers that are in lock down in my one LG are sapose to hatch sunday/monday. So the jumbo brown eggs are going into the mini

Hopefully all 35 fit as they are so much smaller then chicken eggs. that will free up space in my other LG then after my chuckers hatch I had planned on cleaning it out air drying it and then putting your cuckoo maran eggs and the 18 sweedish flower hen eggs that are comeing in it and the serama and norwiegan eggs I just got yesterday and today in the cleaned out incubator leaveing the new group of chuckers , the bobwhites and the other chicken eggs that are all hatching between 23-25 in the one there in. Its complicated but it should work out. But I wont be doing that again. No more spur of the minute swaps for me

. Probly one of the few times someone dosnt want extra eggs
gig.gif
as I would have to start sticking them in a box with a heat lamp pretty soon. I can not beleave how many eggs I got with so little money the swap pages were bad bad bad for me to find
hide.gif
But I am happy all in all I would never have been able to aford these eggs and my son and my younger niece are both loveing it , and Im trying to help them learn about stuff they diffrences in hatching times and the diffrences in shells and colors ect. Its also allowing me to help out my family because the quail and chuckers as well as some of the male mixed chickens are gonna be meat birds and we are all really strapped for cash these days so the meat and eggs help alot. So there are lots of good things comeing from this even though I have a feeling IM gona be over run with peeps soon

I should clarify. I incubate shipped eggs in an egg carton, bottom open. ANd slightly tip the eggs right and then left during the incubation phase. I figure the air cell is pretty big by lockdown anyways so I put the eggs in the LG in a box and set the eggs upright but without the egg carton. ANd hope for the best of course!!

Earlier I was feeling over loaded with chicks and then I sold * roosters and felt so much better. Well with 15 turkey eggs going into lockdown, I think I'm starting to feel panicky again! Where to put all these chicks? ANd they grow so fast.
