I have a complainer . One little chick peeps and peeps and peeps and PEEPS AND PEEPS AND PEEPS. Everyone else is happy and warm and sleeping or looking around and he just follows them around and stands there and peeps. They have food they have water they have a teddy bear but he has only gone silent twice now when sleep overcame the peeping momentarly

Little chickie needs something!

Food, water, warmth. Attention. I would have another look at the situation. Is there enough space at the feeders, perhaps a second feeder. Is the food appropriate? Water warm and fresh? Can the chick reach it? SHould there be 2 waterers? How is the heat? Enough room to move around and choose a cooler or warmer spot. Just a few ideas to check. I'm sure you will see what it needs.

I have tried holding him and checked temp there is a big feed and water containers I am gonna go watch him for a little while and make shure he knows where everything is as well
Introduceing Squeekers Mc Squeeky Pants. Thats his given name now .

i find i always have at least one complainer... quite often the problem isn't very obvious. it could be he's got a bit of egg 'gunk' still stuck to his head or wing or something and it's pulling the feathers. yes i've had that happen before. resolved when baby got a warm/hot 'bath' in the sink and it loosened the bits that were pulling weird. sometimes just watching will tell you what's what. one thing i use, since chicks like to pile, is a balled up fuzzy sock, roughly cone-shaped so they can all lean on it under the heat, and climb on it if they really want to. they like to pile but nobody likes to be on the bottom i think.

I will have to try that sock thing . the chuckar babies loved the teddy bear but these guys dont seem to . 2 more have hatched bringing me up to 11 I have 3 more I can see with pips one apears to be trying to pip lengthwise down the middle of the egg and not getting very far not shure how well thats gonna work for him. Thanks everyone . I had forgotton how stinkin cute baby quail are.

So found a pullet in a snake this morning and now I get to hatch some more EE :gig 1 = 18 eggs in the bator pretty good huh?  I had someone order some NH and hubby said that was fine to toss some EE in to replace that pullet.  I don't seem to have many EE for some reason.  I know I had one batch that didn't hatch well.  I just didn't set many I don't guess.

BTW I was willing to drive from FL to TN with a Blue Rock roo.....it fell though :hit

GO CHICKIES!  My NEXT to last hatch :lau will go into lockdown Wednesday.

I was on my next to last hatch 3 hatches ago!

Don't get me wrong, I am going to hatch again.... just taking a break and they will be MUCH smaller hatches. Some breeds I didn't get many chicks for various reasons. My WL, Wheaten Ams, are two that I don't have many new pullets to work with. I also have some projects... Exchequer Leghorns x WL to improve eggs size, Blue Partridge Rocks, Blue Rocks, and my Lavenders (I just moved them around to try and improve my hatch rates and my number of Laves each hatch, I don't need more splits. Those are just projects and will be in smaller batches of hatches.
