Incubators Anonymous

OK...I really need to join this thread...LOL

My 1st staggered hatch was 91 eggs in 1 bator. This is my 2nd staggered hatch. I'm up to 3 bators & have a 4th in the mail. Egg count is currently at 194 with 11 going in tomorrow & another 170+ on the way in the next 2 weeks. Luckily the 1st bator has 12 of it's eggs in lockdown & are currently hatching as I type. Getting rid of babies has NOT been a problem & I actually have a waiting list for most of what I am hatching...LOL I'm having trouble KEEPING the babies I actually want because everyone else wants them too!!! The good news...so far I have been able to sell everything I've hatched with a profit, even counting egg loss & shipping fees

Now, if I could just manage to keep ahold of the babies I actually WANT!!!

Currently hatching: chicks & ducks

On the way to the bator: more chicks, ducks, turkeys, quail, pheasants

Only things missing: geese, peachicks, emu (gonna hafta look for these I think...LOL)

Welcome Nsampsel You clearly are in need of our assistance in regaining some control.
That being said how's you hatch rate on shipped eggs? I'm having issues with clears, not getting started with eggs from good breeders, so I doubt it's fertililaty . Any ideas? I'm currently using a 1266 Sportsman, hatching in my reptipro.

Ummm...yup...need help alright...filling my bators with eggs...LOL

Lemme see...I have a Farm Innovators 2100 (#1), a Little Giant 9200 (#2), and old Bower 845 (#3), and the one in the mail is a Little Giant 9200 (#4). All are still air & I run a dry hatch in all but the Brower, which has the majority of my ducks in it. Hatch rate on shipped eggs varies depending on the USPS. Some have been great, others have been cracked or scrambled in shell. Some of my non-shipped eggs have had issues as well tho, so maybe it's just ME learning how to do this...LOL

how do I know what kind of incubator to get there are too many to choose from and prices? Help

The LG or little Giant is the one usually found at hthe feed stores. It is a very basic unit that is fairly cheap. Others have more tecnical controls and are more expensive. It's about choces.THese are the smaller units. Do you need a very large more professional size?? SOme poeple start small and in no time, need a huge one.

THe LG is readily available for small money; and we have a support group for the LG to learn the best way to manage this incubator. THis one is for someone who is willing and has the time to adjust the temperatures. IT is very adaptable.

Many other models. If you use the search feature to plug in the model, I'm sure someone has a comment on it.

Here is my opinion after lots of reading: every model has it quirks, and none of the smaller units are perfect. As long as there isn't a manufacturing defect, which can happen if rarely, they will all hatch chicks with proper management techniques.

Now are you totally confused??
