I'm definitely not going to have a lot of extra eggs to go in the incubator. Every Friday a group of women stop in at 4:30 for 8 dozen eggs! ANd then asks for 3 more.

I sent the boys searching every hidy hole the hens use! I was left with ONE extra egg! AND I did not give up my hatching eggs--I need my turkey eggs!! Gave her duck eggs instead!!

One woman did say they would not be by next week--so I'll have enough to cover my other customers this week!

Oh, I need a customer like that, where did you find them? I get that earlier in the year, hatching customers, asking for every extra I can get in a week up to 15 dozen. Sadly it only lasts a couple of months. Then I have all these extra eggs. My dogs have the shiniest coats in the county, cats too. Too bad the horses don't eat eggs.

I didn't get any Delaware to hatch (for the second time) from my shipped eggs, decent hatch on the ones that came with, so maybe it's not ment to be. I'd like to try some of the German New Hampshires, but they are a bit pricey. What makes them so much better, bigger? lay more? meatier? mature faster? than the American version? Is there a different SOP?There aren't a lot of them so It makes me wonder.
Someone tell me, I'm all ears.

They are supposed to be closer to the SOP, but they are lacking some SOP things. They lack the lacing of black around the neck. The color is supposed to be better. All in all a better looking NH than the Americans. Maybe bigger. Not sure on that one yet. It is hard to fine high quality NH in America, but the German NH are filling that void.

Right now the darn things are selling faster than I can hatch them out & I can't manage to keep any for myself!!!! Heading tonight to get 10 more laying hens (mine that were laying all got sold in the past 2 weeks), a Rouen hen, Indian Runner hen, some call duck babies, a pair of mottled cochins, 9 bourbon red poults,12 bourbon red eggs, a pekin duck hen, & a couple more roos (most of these roos will go to Mt Hope in 3 weeks if not sold before then). All I am getting rid of right away is the poults & a OEG bantam spangled split to lavender pair.

I NEED MORE CAGES!!!!!!!!

Wish I had your troubles.... have 10 new babies under a week and as they're truly beautiful breeds and should be easily given/sold/loved away to friends, family, and chicken lovers... there aren't any takers at the moment. It's OK... I can wait and get some fuzz therapy in the meantime.

BTW, I've got some chicks for ummmmm, sale? Southern California anyone????

They are not going in my bator..... anytime soon anyways LOL..... They are on the 24hr auction for CHEAP if you want some! LOTS AND LOTS OF EXTRAS.....LIKE most of the ones that don't sell LOL

You are a horrible terrible... just awful influence. I just turned down four lovely silky eggs (for freeeeeee) cuz I was told very gently that having 22 in the laundry room isn't allowed..... and that's the number we're at now.

I want want want all of them. Grrrrrr.

The Europeans are far better breeders than AMericans in general; they are less emotionally involved and openly discuss pros and cons and follow their SOP's. We tend to be "all for one",they are " one for all". THe stock that they produce is often extraordinary. THe germans and the dutch are particularly good IMO.

X2 I often find a new breed that intrigues me; only problem is I don't have enough room for them all. lol Happy to share the ones I have though. Adding speckled sussex this fall.

Well I guess I might as well not planning on shutting the bator off this summer. I now have 4 different shipments of eggs coming, one of the, being guineas so that puts me almost into august when they hatch so the way I see it was is the point in shutting it down for only a month or so. I would be firing it back up when some of my other breeds start laying anyways.

i set some muscovy on friday and some mille fleur d'uccle today, so that's it until september. vacation mid september but i figure incubators can cook while we're gone. 8) but i want all the babies to be outside before we leave. the muscovy will be due early august so that'll put them 6 weeks or so when we leave.

as for hatching right now, i've got royal palm turkeys, 2 out 1 more pipped from babymakes6, 2 coturnix (brown) out from maryruthlangdon, and 8 red dorkings from rudy troxel due tomorrow. a couple look slow so i put them back in the incubator (less humidity) until the internally pip then i'll move them back over.

got 1 game fowl egg and 2 mystery eggs due the 5th and i've got some oegb, blue bantam wyandotte, mille/partridge, black & self blue cochins due the 10th.

still no power back on yet. severe t-storm caused even more damage last night. they're still saying saturday. praying it's sooner. the generators are great but it gets expensive feeding them.
