Incubators Anonymous

ok i'll ask here... have a customer looking for a specific mixture of chicks. does anyone on this thread have or know where i can get - from the same (reliable) breeder - jersey giant (black i think), blrw and a standard sized mille fleur? not sure what breed mille she's looking for but they like the colors.
Most of the JG breeders are stuck on the whole BBS thing, don't know why. The only Blacks I can think of are Pricey and JG is all they do. Personally we prefer the Blacks but are trying to hatch some BBS now. I had some from Wynette that took a dive when we had the power out, we lost about 70 eggs that day. The power has never been out for more than an hour or so in the 7 years we've live there. I borrowed a Sportsman and had just started filling it. Figures. We have backup now.
What LF comes in mille fleur? The BLRW would be easy, but all from the same breeder? Good luck with that.

My name is Chef, and I am a candle-a-holic. Somebody PLEASE take away my flashlight! Today is day 17, and as of last check (last night) all 14 of my eggs appear to be alive....but I need an intervention quickly or I will never survive lockdown without peeking!

Put them in lockdown and sit on your hands! Or better yet find someone else to sit on your hands!

That sounds a bit naughty...lol

I had almost 200 eggs in 3 bators when the power went out, about 50 in active hatch. Lost over 12 my eggs including all but 3 of the active hatch babies. The only ones who made it were the ones already out & dry before power went out.

Made a 5+ hr road trip last night to pick up 4 do2en more eggs, 2 peacocks (for a customer), 3 black cochin bantam chicks, & 2 Ameraucana chicks. Bators will be full again today or close to it anyway since there was already another 39 eggs that arrived in the mail yesterday & I set 39 pheasants & quail the day before. There are still more eggs & another bator to arrive this week

Pete55 never does a lock down by date, he candles until they externally pip. Then moisture levels need to be keep up high to prevent drying.

I was a candle a holic the first few times incubating. Interesting things to see!!

I was the same way at first but now I only candle on day 10 and at lockdown. I usually don't go into lockdown until day 19 if I have other eggs in the bator. I run a sportsman and I think that a day less of high humidity is a little easier on the eggs, especially when a certain set has to go through 3 other hatches before they hatch. I can't wait to get a separate hatcher..or build one.
