Incubators Anonymous

I was the same way at first but now I only candle on day 10 and at lockdown. I usually don't go into lockdown until day 19 if I have other eggs in the bator. I run a sportsman and I think that a day less of high humidity is a little easier on the eggs, especially when a certain set has to go through 3 other hatches before they hatch. I can't wait to get a separate hatcher..or build one.
just get a hovabator (with fan) and use that for hatching. works great for me...

i don't use the water reservoir in the bottom, but have a plastic bowl with hardware cloth fitted 'lid' to keep chicks from falling in. i fill it about once a week and it keeps the humidity right at 60% (higher when hatching starts).

it's one of those rectangular disposable plastic jobs, maybe 3-4 cup sized. experiment around with different sized bowls and see what size works best for you. i could go smaller probably but just didn't have any smaller ones to try.

I have two lgs but those dont hold enough eggs, unless i really stuffed them in there. I need a bigger hatcher that can hatch out at least 90 eggs at a time. I use the lgs for my smaller hatches.

Don't forget the 4 doz I just shipped

Now...if I can just get these ones in lockdown to hatch before Fri I will be doing good. They are already sold & she wants to pick them up Sat with the rest of her order...15 chicks total, 2 peacocks, and 10 bourbon red poults (I know some of the b.reds will have to wait til next week as my supplier doesn't have another hatch til then)...and she is bringing me Pekin ducks that are already sold & will be delivered that same day to my customers

I think your dates are off a little. You got the eggs on the 11th and didn't set them till after the 12th so yesterday would have been day 21 and if you set them after the 12 because you were playing musical incubators they are on time. I have never had the cuckoos hatch late so that would be odd unless your temps where off.

Well Im glad you remmber . I have had so many batches of eggs hatch I dont know if Im comeing or going . My temps ran just a tad cool like one degree on avrage. One sweedish flower hen is out . Oddly enough for me IM so tired I just wish I was done hatching but I have my buttons due in a little while . This serama is kicking my butt. She finnaly pooped for the first time a minte ago so hopefully thats a good sign and I wont have to sleep with her anymore

I don't have my hatcher where I can watch to much. I don't live at the farm so they get to do their magic on their own. Maybe you should just go to sleep. They really will be fine and if not there was nothing you could do anyway.

lol i've been so concerned about the power being out (day 5 now) and is this or that ok and such, hubby had to remind me about the red dorkings in the hatcher. 2 out. and i should have set 3 other eggs in there like 2 days ago, they just went into the hatcher.

update: 2 more pipped, one zipped and just hasn't pushed the halves apart yet. the 3 i just put in the hatcher, 1 looks internally pipped, the others don't look like they're doing anything at all, but we'll see.
