I would guess that is right.... My Marans were mostly CLEAR and my Lavs have QUITE laying TOTALLY! NOTING NADA in WEEKS! No molting in that pen that I can tell. I had 2 layers and 6 near POP pullets 1 (I think) started laying and then NOTHING WTH???????

OH and you said something about the incubator being MASSIVE.... it is about 5ft tall and 40-42 inches wide and 4 ft long and a little platform for the motor adds another 18 inches to the length. MASSIVE is correct!

Yup, that is huge! I'm introuble with just what my 2 little ones can do!

I've been hatching turkey, duck and chickens side by side in mine. LOOOOVVE the color or the buff orpingtons, never too many of those! Have people keep asking for marans. Guess I will keep that pen separated and under lights.

I came home from work yesterday to a hatcher full (for me). I have 4 SBEL and 2 lt blue 2 dark blue and 2 black, Donna What do I have? I know there are BBR and OE. 2 of my Rio grand Turkeys from the Fridge hatched too, they are so cute. (I have a batch in from the trash next

) My Ams from Arielle are pipping, 4 Bourbons are growing.
I set 18 of mine for snake food orders, dispatched juv 6 roos and my Flock EE roo and BIG (9lb) Cuckoo Maran Roo (Both for being aggressive) Good thing their replacements are in the Bachelor pen. My Splash Maran roo is happy for now.
So I had to set some extras

, Like the W/BW Am and some ebay EX leghorns. DH is gonna start to wonder how they are still hatching if I'm finished till Fall

I'm new to this hatching thing so, I don't hatch near the #s that I've seen on some of these post. I would love too thought (my husband would not be to happy. lol). Anyway, out of 11 eggs that I set I hatched out 3 beautiful turkens, 2 AmerOrp, 1 Orpington, and 1 mystery bantam. Thought that was pretty good for a beginner 7 out of 11. This is actually my 3rd hatch in 3 weeks, but I still feel new. I had 2 Ameraucanas that had internal pips when I checked them before lockdown, but nothing happened. I'm not sure. I'm pretty bummed about loosing them. They are beautiful.

I have question for these professional incubator/hatchers (me being jealous): I had a chick hatch with some kind of yellowish stuff coming out of its rear end. What is going on with it. I had a JG that did that last week and it died after 3 days. I have searched the site and found very little about it.

It is the yolk. There are a few reasons for it not being fully absorbed as it should be. The main thing is Watch temp. If the average temp is off the entire incubation it can cause all kinds of problems. Sometime things just happen with no explaining too.

Also if they are pipping internally and not going any farther it sounds like your humidity is off. Do you use a hygro and is it calibrated. Not saying you need it but I think it is better to learn with one, especially for hatching.

So I know I was going to shut the bator down at some point, but....i have the winning bid on two different sets of cream legbar eggs on eBay that ends in 2 hours. So...that wil put me close to the end of August. By then one of my young RIR Roos will be ready to go in with my br hens for sex links. Then I have to hatch like mad because a pullet raiser near me want 400 pullets. I just need to figure out what to do with all the cockerels! I WILL NOT cull at hatch like is done sometimes with sex links. I am not that heartless.

He's torn the residual yolk sac on his way out. It happens. If you can close or clot the wound, some make it, some don't. They're often slower to grow and need extra support to do well. The residual yolk provides energy for growth, temperature maintenance and adaptation to self feeding. With less, it's harder on them, even where they don't dehydrate or infect and die.

Gro-gel or other electrolyte source is helpful in these cases. Flour can be used to help clot off the wound. I've even tied off a dragging egg sac with thread, isolated and fed and watered the chick by itself until it dried healed and fell off. She made it to full and healthy growth. So it can be handled.
