Donna, how about straw?? The pine shavings-are these kiln dried or fresh? Kiln dried are usually not pungent.
Straw is the WORST, I have to wear a mask to use it. IDK.... guardian premium flakes? It is not that it is pungent, only NASTY when wet in the brooders. Makes me want to skip the 2-6 week age all together LOL....

THis morning my blue Americana/EE chicks started jumping out of their eggs. I totally lost track of the days --I though today was the 23rd! HA HA not! At last check, 10 chicks are out, and a goodly number are blue! yeah !!!!!! Today is day 20!!!

I kinda did that too LOL I have 11 new babies that I thought were due TODAY but they were hatching in the incubator TUESDAY IDK what happened. I marked it in my calender. Either I missed or with the heat we had they developed too fast IDK... less than 1/2 hatched. I got 6 marans and 4 wheatens and 1 lavender. About 8 ameraucana eggs in the hatcher and maybe 6 or so Marans. I will candle them tomorrow. I saw life in all the Wheaten eggs a few days ago.

I don't see how I could have been 3 days off

It happens to all of us I guess.

I did get 3 golden chicks so some little hussy is excaping and getting back in. My sincerest apologies to those that have bought these eggs!!! Most will be blue and blacks. THe goldens will lay a greener egg, a pale olive of sorts.

WHy is this never easy.

Sorry, but it is hard to find a good roo.

Did you get one with feathered legs. I think I have one that is more dominate than the others. He has a huge comb and I think he is the one trying to crow. He is about 3 months.

THere is always one boy with more testosterone!! No leg feathering here--I'm ok with that--THey will probably just remain a project breed for me. Maybe sexlinked chicks-- chocolate eggs, and olive eggs. I get so confused on the FBCM and the red breasted breeds--are they black based or red based? Good thing I keep notes somewhere!

Working on building more pens. I decided that bigger is better. I have about 75 chicks to sell, or to freezer camp is I can get up the courage. I keep thinking about the feed bill for encouragement! LOL

AHH, that is the answer! I got 5 big fluffy butts and one has like reddish brown on it's head, very cute. I have a cuckoo marans hen that travels too. We cut her wing but it hasn't slowed her down, ended up turning her out to free range since I was hatching CM's for a customer

this sickness has taken over, i allready have 95 eggs set and got 29 more today..

Don't know where I am gonna put them, I have full pens as it is, really need to sell some chicks or build more pens, my current growing pen has 15 silkies, 20 barred rock, 17 turkey, and 3 lemon cuckoo orpingtons.

but who's counting ???

Just can not help myself, I see eggs for sale and think to myself, wow I do not have any of them

hubby says if I get anymore I will be sleeping with them, Gee it's gonna be a cold winter.

My incubator just came in today, so will be putting some in sometime next week. I'm so excited

Though I'm not quite sure where I'll put any that hatch...guess I need to start adding on!

I hatched 13 of Shayna's beautiful guineas and have 28 more from corancher in the bator, plus an unknown number of turkey eggs (I keep adding to them and have to Really watch to get them to lockdown on time). My calender runnith over and I'm so CONFUSED. I had BBS Jersey giants pipping in the bator cause I forgot chickens only take 21 days . I have W/BW Am's in there too, They Are on the calender, I just have to make sure I read it. Oh and I added some EX leghorns the other day. I Need to put them on the calender too, when I think about it.
