Look at their reviews is 1 way. Ask around to see if anyone has gotten eggs from them is another.
Thanks for the tips. I've learned the hard way after I realized what what going on. After I had purchases from others on the same day within a couple of minutes or hours from that purchase being delivered, I began to wonder and I checked and compared scores. There was a Big difference~ my mistake+upset child=upset mom. Well we all learn from our mistakes. There are some honest ones out there. I purchased a few from our very own BYC buddies and had wonderful success. I was very pleased even for a newbie. They are certainly on my ''buy from next time" list if I need more.

ok, i've got a couple girls (ameraucanas) i need help with. mostly just identifying the color. since i know a bunch of you have them, maybe you can give me tips.

i've been thinking blue wheaten ??

her colors are much better in the sun, but holding her, her posture was all whacky.

They very pretty EE not real Ameraucanas.... sorry. Not a color name for them. They will not breed true since they are a mixed chickens so I can't tell you what to do to breed them. Pick a colorful roo and hope for pretty babies of all colors.

I have Wheaten/Blue Wheatens, Black and Lavender. Most Ameraucanas don't come in color patterns. Silver's are rare and very hard to find. I can't name them all blue, black, buff, wheaten, blue wheaten, silver, white, I know there is something else.....

My incubator is such a sad sight right now. Only 2 dozen eggs in there with one dozen of them in lockdown. I gotta get more eggs in there soon! 2 dozen is almost empty for a sportsman isn't it? Time to hit up some auction I think!

ok well i'm not planning on breeding them, they were TSC ameraucana chicks, so i guessed not pure, but you could always hope. i LOVE the blue girl. her feathers almost look metalic in the direct sunlight. and the other girl is almost a kaleidescope when the sun hits her, for the blues and greens on the black bits. someone commented to me the other day that she thought all EE were just kinda blah brownish blobs. so i had to show her my girls. almost makes me want more. LOL but i need to reserve priority space for the dorkings. 4 EE are enough. but i'd love to know what went into making them.

I'm thoroughly disappointed right now...I had to call my 13 year old and tell him that when I candled his JG eggs that they weren't viable. He is so disappointed. We won these back in late June and the person just sent them last week. They were sent after I filed for a refund. I think that 4 weeks is long enough to wait when you're told they'll be there at a certain time. I was told there were extenuating circumstances that could not be avoided so, that is the reason for the long wait. The eggs were shipped on a Friday so, they sat, only the Good Lord knows where, over the weekend. When we got them, we candled and the aircells were just bubbles everywhere in some. They were also packed every which-a-way. So, we let them sit for 24 hours w/o any movement or touching or breathing or looking with hopes that they would come back together. Today, was a huge disappointment. They've been in since Tuesday so Wednesday was day one. There was not the first vein in all 10. I can usually tell by now if they're going to make of not. I had a feeling this would happen because I filled for the return. I'm giving them another couple of days. Maybe I'm wrong. I just have this gut feeling that I'm not. I've seen this before. Even if it's only been 4 days there should be something.

How am I supposed to know who is a reputable seller and who is not?
I'm sorry you didn't get any hatchlings from this shipment. Shipped eggs are a gamble--you may not have any hatch. I have good hatch rates, even when laid every which way in the box; and I've had one out of 12 hatch when packed with end up. I have had 1/6 turkey eggs dev and then it didn't hatch. I've bought 12 turkey eggs and none hatched.

THese were purchased from reputable BYC sellers. Shipped eggs are a gamble, BUT you can increase the odds if you know the longer the distance the better. For some reason the air plane shipping is better than a ride only by truck. Care of the hens is important and care of the eggs while collecting for shipment, and even then rough handling by the USPS can kill them all. I hve asked for non-machineable transport of my hatching eggs by the USPS and I can only confirm 1 box having traveled that way.

It is disappointing when the eggs don't develop. By the time you have them in hand there is no way to know the cause of failure to develop. THe seller may have sent eggs that are just fine and has other eggs that are developing in the incubator.

I personally buy only from BYCers. Still not a guarentee but I feel I have a better chance of success as I can read input by other customers.

So those of you that have bought eggs from me , please consider adding your opinion to my page. I work very hard to send fresh well cared for eggs. Even non-BYCers find me via BYC!

I really like the blue EE. If I could get some that looked like that I would add them to my free range flock.

I just had a batch of chicks hatch. THe dad is a blue AMericana. THe chicks are blues blacks and a few oops due to a hen jumping out of her pen. SHould make pretty green eggs though. I should look for feathering--maybe some marans in there. I do have the rooster still running with his girls but miss hussy is still a factor. If you are interested in this f1 cross, just send me a PM. I can have them in the mail in just a couple days. Possibly even tomorrow.

Another good thing about buying from bycers is that generally they are more willing to work with you to get more eggs if you have a zero hatch. I don't expect this service but it is nice when it is offered. eBay sellers come and go and I am always cautious about buying eBay eggs. There are a lot of bad sellers on there! I have gotten eggs that were just put into egg cartons and thrown in the box! The seller wouldn't even respond to my complaints that all the eggs were broken. They were reported and removed from eBay! Apparently I wasn't the Only one that had a complaint about them.
