ok, well i think i noticed something... see if anyone else agrees with me?

donna, from what you said, i think cuckoos would only produce blue and splash, and barred rocks would only produce black and blue, right?

if so, the 2 splash are definitely cuckoo, the 2 blacks definitely rocks.

i didn't take a pic of the splash, since you can't see any markings on their head either way, but i noticed on the chicks, the blacks had some facial markings, as did some of the blues but not other blues...

so i *THINK* the barred rocks would have the facial markings, cuckoo none. in the pic, the rocks are on the bottom, marans on the top. what do you think?

Let me look at mine tomorrow... I have some cuckoos that just hatched a couple of weeks ago. I think I have seen more of the facial color on Marans. The black is a rock for sure. Interesting......

I lost a chick, wheaten pullet, while we were gone to a funeral. Then this morning I found the SLW chick I got from Foley dead..... bloody poo everywhere

so I added meds to the waterer, cleaned the brooder bedding, they were eating it, I dosed each one with meds too.

Then I looked in my other brooder with the little guys (I had some in with the SLW batch for a day or so) and one chick was dead and a little bit of bloody poo

these are my keeper pens

I medicated their water too and bought some NEW Med Feed. Is there anything else I should do? I don't think I have ever had cocci before. Only 1 chick looked really bad, but was not down completely, medicated her with a dropper too. Nobody seems really sick... just the one chick. I used some oxine when I cleaned the pen may not help but can't hurt.

The chicks seem to be ok... they are not getting worse. 2 died overnight, but there is not much bloody poo in the brooders.

Fresh meds for all today.

Candled my eggs.... looked like some were internally pipping so I quickly put them in the hatcher.... I've GOT to remember to put this stuff in my calender

Put more Cuckoos in and some BLRW and SLW. The SLW and my BLRW are not developing

I don't think the roos like the confined spaces they are in. I see only one more SLW developing. We will see.......

GNH (2 sets) Coming this week. I may just sell my GNH now.... I don't think I can breed them.

Lots of eggs going out for swaps.... I have never done that before.... was kinda fun.
