Three problems,

First, they live on the Yucatan peninsula (and Central/South Am), we'll be on the Baja peninsula (is this even breeding season?)
Second, I don't want to go to a Mexican prison for smuggling turkey eggs
Third, if I were going to smuggle eggs (notice the IF), it would be in my lunch like they were boiled and NOT in my pockets, too obvious

Hmmmm...yup. Stash them in the lunch bag!!! PERFECT!!!

My six little Old English Banty chicks that came earlier than I though they would!!! Last three have pipped and are now zipping their way out. Think they are all going to be cream or tan adults. I need to get another Roo to mix up the color a little.

Anybody know some egg genetics? I have a question, I have my SBEL and LOVE them, could I use an Olive Egger Roo and get Olive Eggs if crossed with a White Leghorn? I sold 2 of my Am roos and I need to find homes for my WL hens..... My Lavender roo, I want him to work on his Splits and Lav girls and not have too many WL he has more girls than the other roo.

Well, I'm not an expert, but I know that blue shells are dominant to white, but you need the brown to overlay the shell for the olive.

My main point in replying is I've looking for white leghorn girls for a breeding project. Too bad you're so far away!

what color do leghorns lay? if it's white, then you won't maintain an olive egg, since that requires blue and brown. olive eggs require something along the lines of marans for super dark, a regular brown egg will give more green eggs, but white eggs will just go back to blue eventually.

Quote: My roo has both of the genes, I think. He looks like a BCM roo with a beard and pea comb. The blue is not a problem, just thinking the dark brown might go over too.... I feel SURE I will get a lot more straight combs. My roo only has 1 copy of the pea comb gene and blue egg gene.

Quote: I am penning up my WL for replacements. Seems out of all I hatched I only ended up with 2-3 pullets... go figure. If you want some hatching eggs WHEN YOU GET BACK, I can hook you up. I don't keep them penned up all the time, they don't sell well.
That would be great. I'm not looking for SQ, but no obvious DQ's. Were they from a hatchery line or ? I'm trying to avoid nasty temperaments too.

And yes......................nothing until I get back (turkey eggless)

Thanks,
Deb
