i just ordered a hoverabator small incubator that has air flow & automatic turner. i'm getting some eggs in a couple of days (silkies). this is the 1st time i'm using an incubator. is there anything special i should know about hatching silkies (temp, humidity, size of eggs, etc).? don't want to mess up my 1st batch! thanx!

Nothing special as far as silkies are concerned, Follow the instructions with the incubator and you should be good to go.

:Dohhhhh I am sooo jealous ! Havobator not in the budget this month, boo hoo for me. Good luck, we will be anxious to hear about your success:lol:

although with silkies you can replace the heating element and fan with a hairdryer and they come out looking great!

if you dont have the fan then you need to set the temp at 101.5 if you have the fan 99.5 and keep an i on the water in the bottom. usally add water at day 7,14, and fill it day 18 that has worked perfect for me. my first hatch was bad. and dont open the lid during the hatch but once or twice at the most to get chicks out. every 12 hours is the rule. good luck. nobody is perfect the first time. you just have to learn as you go. i learned the hard way. i this helps. tim

It's so much easier when mom does it! If I can't get them under broodie when they hatch, how do I know when they're ready to eat & drink? Do I only take them out when they're completely dry?
