I feel your pain! Lost 120 Georgia Giant hatchlings Saturday before last (day 15). Thunderstorm come rolling in at 4:00 a.m. and took out the power for 12 hours. Didn't have any backup power. At 7:00 a.m., bator temp was 79º, and at 9:00 a.m., it was 69º. I knew there was no salvation, so I tossed them. This was my first (very expensive) try at hatching, so needless to say, I wasn't easy to be around the rest of the day

Oh well, I'm fixin' to try again...........Gonna try 50 GGs along with 50 or so Northern Bobs, which I'm gettin' eggs from now.............

Ouch! Dang Randall I hate hearing things like that--- sorry bub... Sooner or later we all take a hit. I feel for both you guys, because i have been there--- each way. Probably will be again before its overwith...

If you loose power again try using those heat packs that you just open and the air activates them. They are used by hunters in the winter. Just keep an eye on it as they can get quite hot quickly. I used them last time i had a power outage and they worked fine, but i had to open the incubator a couple of times to get it too cool down. If left unattended they can fry your eggs. not the best option but will work in a pinch and they last for quite a while.

I cant believe I tried to use the hovabator . . .

I shoulda known better.

Anyways, day 1 is a wrap, and hopefully things will be ok.

My homemade incubator is rock solid at 100, and I figured out a quick quail attachment for the turner.

I hope that odays 107 reading was the result of lunar dust reacting with the electromagnetism created when the wafer thermostat is in such close proximity to the thermometr so as to cause a chain reaction of events including, but not limited to, inaccurate readings.

I know my thermometer is good tho, and I hope my eggs didnt fried, yours either

Check this out first--- I am familiar with these hot packs... Its a chemical reaction using oxidation for the heat catalyst--- this means it has to give off carbon dioxide or monoxide ( 1 or both...) to accomplish this--- either gas in an enclosed incubator will suffocate your eggs in short order.

I use hovabators and never have any problems... If I have a flucating temp its usually in one of the lg's not the hovas... sounds like your wafer is taking a dump--- its a quick and easy fix, just replace the wafer disc. They are readily available from gqf or off of ebay. Personally of all the commercially available "coolerbators" hovas are my 1st choice. Or chuck 'em all and buy a real incubator---- Brinsea baby! thats what i'm talkin about!
