IncuCube Bator

Hatch is over.

The Marans egg which was JUMBO and I just happened to place it next to the motor was cooked.

I only got two to hatch.

Two polish. One had the membrane shrink wrapped around it's head and I think the left eye is blind. I don't know how it zipped like that. I had to wash a lot with warm water to get the membrane off. The Therm/hygrom that came with the bator was duct taped to the left wall and it fell and cracked the shell, so I'm sure that's why it shrink wrapped around the right wing and left eye.

8 made it to lockdown, 6 quit after lockdown.

I couldn't see anywhere for the air to escape where I placed the duct tape, but it did somewhere.

But I got two of 12.

Test over.

Yes, I finished my hatch today. Out of 11 that I put in lockdown I had 6 hatched, one of the 6 didn't make it. It got stuck to the membrane so I opened up the bater to help him and it was too late. These eggs were shipped over 1000 miles and I only let sit for 3 hours before putting in bator. (I couldn't wait) The bator and turner worked very well. The motor on the turner was pretty hot but with the fan I don't think I lost any to the motor on the turner, if I did, it was only one. I opened up my remaining eggs and for some reason the ones that didn't make it were pretty well developed with the egg yolk mostly used up. Not sure why they didn't hatch. When I opened them up the membranes where hard to break to get to the chick. Here are some photos.

I could see the glue/sticky pads beginning to weaken on Friday evening...I hope the cover doesn't come off over the weekend...

My temp has been fluctuating like that nearly the whole time..I just assumed they did that, lol. I think it averages close to 99.5

marymac...if you are reading a digital..those tend to go up and down quickly...if you put a mercury, glass thermometer in the bator you would see that your average temp would stall pretty stable..since mercury responds slower.

I have 2 digitals in my Brinsea..and throughtout the course of the day they'll read from 98.9 to 99.9....and the mercury thermometer inside ALWAYS is right on 101..and has not moved since I set my eggs.

So the digitals tend to change often.

Thanks, this is new to me. My first 2 attempts were in a LG and both were total failures. I used a borrowed incubator and didn't know the first thing about incubating, now I know a little more.
