Incuview Incubator

Pics
Hi,
Just finished a second hatch, let a friend who is more experienced at hatching have a go with the IncuView. She was excited to try it.
The buttons are still sticky... it ran a bit hot and she had to turn it down a few times. One pipped at the wrong end, two got their legs whacked by the fan... I hope that there is an improvement with the fan. Either a better guard or an option to turn it off for hatch time.
The chick that got caught in the fan died and the other one is doing ok but got pretty scratched up.
Anyone else have this happen?
There are any great things about this bator, but still some tweaking to go with the design I think
Chris
This post confused me so much I had to take a look at my fan right away.
I absolutely do not understand how a chick could get it's leg hit by this fan. I can't stick my pencil through the grille. I wonder if perhaps someone took your grill off?

Also the fan is about three inches above the floor of the incubator. Did the chicks lie on their backs and stick their feet up into the air as far as three inches?

I don't mean to pick a fight, but something just doesn't seem right about this.

whoa wait a sec the fan killed two of your chicks?? how did that happen i was ready also to make the final purchase but not if its not safe. can anyone please alaborate on this? thanks for the tip in the nic of time

No one died after it got it's foot clipped, the other one is ok but scratched up. I'm not trying to discourage anyone really, just sharing what happened to my friend when she borrowed it to try.
Copany said that was the first they heard of any problems like that.

I wasn't there Margaret, but yes, I'm guessing it was early in the hatch and there were eggs under the fan and the chick flailed and got it's toe up in there. Not the whole foot. My friend must have very active chicks. I wouldn't post it if it didn't happen. I just went and looked at mine, the guard is in place, but I can see how a flailing chick could get it's toe up in there.
We both were excited about this bator, so I was just giving our experiences.
I took mine out before they were dry, just cuz I can't stand to see them wander around in there! She waited till they were dry. DIdn't want to open it much. It recovers fast after taking off the top, but she didn't know that. It was her first time with it.

ErniesFlock please just keep an eye on them. One chick that got it's toe in there did die. I don't know if it was related or not but the other one is scratched up but ok. I never hatch truly important eggs on the first time around with a bator or a broody...
Thank you for the thumbs up on sharing my experience. I'm not into drama, just thought it was important to share

Well, either it was a super weird accident or there's something your friend isn't telling you.

Agree! I cant help but wonder if there is some miscommunication here and its the turner that injured the chicks instead of the fan.
