Incuview Incubator

Really? How do you set that? Using our electric heat, we can keep the room fairly constant.

I moved the bator to a different spot in the room, and it's been holding steady all morning.

PD: I'd love to have a cabinet incubator, natch. Can't afford it, though, so making the best of this one is my only option.

Thanks, all!
It will hold steadier/better during the day---it is usually warmer, plus you said you increased the heat. You said the heater was reading ---almost 100% so I am thinking its doing ALL it can do which was not enough to keep up in the 60 some degree room. As I said if you got the room you can add a little heat inside or put in a closed/place where you can keep that space warmer that your whole room. I imagine you are not to happy if it want keep up in a 60 degree room----which alot of the styrofoam has a problem when the room is that cool. If I was going to keep them I would add a little heat inside if possible.

After running for 24 hours, the temps and humidity had stabilized. Yesterday, I gathered 6 eggs, weighed and labeled them, and am storing them in a cooler with the lid partially open for ventilation and a Tupperware container of water to provide some moisture. The average temps in my kitchen during the current cold snap are right in the optimal zone: 55-60 degrees. Most of the eggs were right around 60 g. Planning to set them on Friday evening after candling an marking air sacks!

It's interesting: all we did was to raise the heat up from 64 to 71 in our bedroom and the incubator has remained stable for the last 48 hours.

I've also figured out how to add water to the incubator, and have been holding the humidity at 40 - 45%. What is the optimal humidity percentage to shoot for when you first set your eggs? Is it 20% to 30%?

I've been reading and rereading the Hatching 101 article. So much good information there! Sally Sunshine, if you're reading this, what a great service you have rendered us newbies! Sally talks about the need for ventilation. All I see on the Incuview is the one hole with its plastic plug. There are no vent holes below the eggs. Is it because of the circulating fan that there doesn't need to be more ventilation than this? I assume that most of you experienced Incuview hatchers leave the vent open for the whole hatch?

The one hole right next to the fan is sufficient. Because of it's placement, the fan pulls in air from the whole. Plus they get a fresh air every time you open the incubator to add water. Also, make sure you have a seperate humidity gauge. The one built into the lid on mine is way off.

@Storybook Farm

Watching your experience. Thanks for posting. The jury is still our for me on purchasing one of these so I appreciate reading everyone's experience and reviews.

Agrees....but:

@Storybook Farm Testing a hygrometer is easy-peasy no guessing..tho still have to note the difference for later readings.

Hygrometers can be tested by putting 1/2 cup salt and 1/4 cup water in a dish or jar and mixing it to a slurry.
Put the salt slurry jar and the hygrometer next to each other in a large sealed plastic bag.
After 8-12 hours the hygrometer should read 75%... note any differences and you're set.
