India blue Peacock & Hen

Dark Pied and split whites can and often look very similar. Sometimes a dark pied will show a white feather or a few elsewhere on body, which normally does not happen with split whites. But that is not fool proof and the only way to be absolutely sure is by seeing what sort of chicks they produce. The clearest and most simplest way is to breed beach bird in question with a white.. because:

If split white, bred with white= 1/2 white, 1/2 blue split white.

If dark pied, bred with white= 100% pied.

If pied(with not much white), bred with white= 1/2 white, 1/2 pied

If split pied(some breeders say those usually don't show any white), bred with white= 1/2 blue looking, 1/2 pied.

BTW someone asked:

Dark pied x blue= all blues, split for pied.

However you mentioned getting a white chick.. if it is not a black shoulder(they are born white looking but get color fast as they grow), it would show that the parents are split whites.

Split white x split white= 1/4 pure blues, 1/2 blue split whites, 1/4 white.
