I have an Indian runner duck, She has always had a bit of a limp. A few days ago we noticed she wasn't walking so decided to go and check on her. She was trying to walk but kept falling down, Like she had no strength in 1 of her legs. She is eating, Drinking and still laying her eggs. We took her to the vet and she had a temp so high it was off the charts, Hotter then the thermometer could read. She was given an antibiotic shot and the temp came down. We were advised to keep her in over night and picked her up the next afternoon. She is still having trouble walking and hobbled her way up the ramp of the pool and had a great time swimming.. But when she got out of the pool she was back to walking funny and falling over. I called the vet and they don't know what is wrong with her. I don't know what to do. I don't want her to be in pain. Though she seems happy and healthy I just don't know what is wrong with her.. We have 3 other ducks and they are all fine. Please someone help me :)

Since the antibotic helped why not go and grab some and treat her for a couple of days with them and see what happens. It could just be a very bad bacterial infection in her leg.

Did the vet tell you about the antibiotic, like whether it is the equivalent of a ten day program of oral antibiotics? Our cat had a shot like that once. If that is the case, I would advisevthe vet of what you see, and keep giving your little one swim time, along with vitamins, electrolytes, and probiotics. Her muscles may be quite weak from illness so give it some time.

Thanks, I am pretty stressed about her. I just went to check on her and she is shaking a bit also. I am going to see how she goes over the next couple days and give her swim time every day and if she isnt better by Monday then I will take her to a different Vet :)

The vet was in to much of a hurry to talk to me. I called her today and they really don't know anything. They think she might have strained herself laying an egg.. I don't know about that. Doesn't sound like it makes sense to me, If she was in pain when she walked would she Quack. How can I tell if she is in pain?
