Hi all! I need some advice please :) I have 5 chooks and an Indian runner. Duck was purchased as a duckling with 1 of the chickens as a chick.she is about 5-6months old now and in the last 2 weeks has been quacking constantly. Its like she is loudly muttering to herself with frequent loud honks! So loud. I live on a domestic block and am sure its onlyba matter of time before I get a complaint. Could it be because there are no other ducks? I love her dearly and would hate to have to re-home her. I am maxxed out on poultry. Please help!

I'm sure she is lonely being an only ducks. They really need companionship and another duck may solve all your problems. Are there any predators? Are your chickens acting normal?

Yeah, she is definitely lonely. I have three ducks, one of which is and Indian Runner, and he is the most vocal! lol But, even when I put one in the bath, alone while waiting for the next one to be moved in a few seconds later, they let me know in no uncertain terms they do NOT like to be separated!!

So, yeah, they really do need the companionship of other ducks.

Is there no way for you to get/have another duck-mate for the little girl? It's just that it's kinda unfair for her to not have another duck around. I'm sorry.

I can't get another duck :( I canonly have 6 birds as per the local council. When I got her I was told she would be fine because she would be growing up with the chooks. One very sad ducky mummy here :(

Try the unbreakable mirror, and spend what time you can with her.

Forgive me for mentioning this, but is there a duck lover you know who might take her into a flock? It is something to consider - only you know if that may be an option.

My BIL has a farm with 3 other ducks, I'm sure he will take her for me, I just hope the others accept her!

I'm sorry. It sucks, but she will be happier. What if you trade a chicken for a duck? How many chickens do you have?
