I have 2 female indian runners who have been laying on eggs For 32 days now. I candled the eggs on Friday and they look like the eggs are due today but none of them are cracked or hatching yet. How long do I leave it before I accept they are duds?

Alternatively can I take them out and put them in the brooder box, will they hatch in ther, i dont have an incubator?

I would let them stick with it a few more days. Are they still sitting? I hope a hatcher checks in soon.

I have only read the forum about these things, but I wanted to respond.

Welcome to the Duck Forum!

Any other details you can give us? Are they in a duck house or outdoors?

Welcome to the duck section! It must be a Kevin thing

. What are your temperatures right now? This can affect the hatching time sometimes. Do you have a Drake? How old is he?

Today's update. Thanks for your responses. Yesterday late afternoon we found a broken egg outside the duck house with a dead duckling in it and then this morning there was another smashed egg in the duck house which was a dud.

We have decided to bring the eggs into the brooder to see what happens. The 2 adult female ducks look a little relieved to be able to spend the morning outside.

We dont have a drake, the eggs were bought fertilised.

Sorry to hear about the smashed eggs.

I'm not optimistic the brooder idea will work, but I do hope it is successful for you. Keep us updated.

BTW, welcome to BYC

Are you measuring the temperature in the brooder? Also you need to create some humidity so the ducklings have the ability to turn in the egg so they can hatch.
