I just got three Indian runners, there 1.5 years old. The guy I got them from thought there is one drake and 2 hens. I was wondering if any one knows how to tell for sure? They don't have any curly feathers. One has a pretty blue end wings where the other two do not. Do the males loose there curly feather? I love these lil ducks! I also have two khaki Campbells one hen one drake :-) and then 3 other mix ducks they kind of look like Indian cross, I can't tell on thren either what sex they are. I've read if they quack really loud they're hens, all but that one Indian quack ready loud, but what would be the odds of buying 6 ducks and 5 being girls? :-) if I post pics does anyone think they could tell? Thanks so much!!! I'm new to having ducks, I've always wanted them, we just bought our lil country house So now we have lil ducks!!! And goats...and chickens! :-)

Yep post pictures! My Indian runner drake doesn't have a curl, one of his tail feathers just lifts up at the end. Pick him up and walk away with him. Does he sound like a toad? That is what my drake IR sounds like to me. Pictures!

Hi can anyone help I have 2 Indian runners which are roughly about 16/20 weeks old I purchased them 2 weeks ago the next day after bringing them home one had laid a small egg but nothing since.
They are fed on layer pellets and wheat plus free range and scraps.
Ive noticed over the last couple of days they seem to be loosing feathers one of them when I bought her still had some fuzzy feathers on her neck but as I'm very new to keeping these lovely girls just want some info what is normal at this age as I do worry

Pick each duck up individually and listen to the quack. If it is loud and full-voiced, the duck is a female. If it is soft and whispery, the duck is male. If you aren't sure, look up some videos on youtube. The difference is quite obvious once you know what to look for.

Agreed, GGBEAR, (I like that name - we have so many good ones here) - I think they are going through a molt, so they'll rest from laying eggs for a bit. When my Runners are molting, I give a few teaspoons each of good quality cat kibble a few times a week, to boost the protein for better feathers. They may also appreciate a little flax seed.

PeachesAnnie14, congratulations all around!!!!!

Oh OK I'm 99.9% they are female they both quack very loud. When I purchased them they were in a pen in a barn with about another 6 ducks there was no water for them except a drinking tank I have them in a large coop with 3 hens all purchased at the same time they have their own hut but to b honest the hens are more wary of the ducks as if they try and have a nosey in the ducks pond the ducks chase the hens or pull their feathers.
I wonder could the change from being in a barn to outside and also being able to swim have anything to do with their moult??
Sorry if this sounds stupid to you wise ones but like I said very new still learning. And I never realized they moulted that young!!!
PS Amiga my name is my daughter's nickname xx
