It's a multigenerational flock now that's figured what's generally safe, where's generally safe, and what times are generally safe. If anything, it's a hazard for mine because they cannot flee predators.

Sounds like you’ve had time to watch them develop awareness of what they can do. I’ve noticed over time mine have become bolder and now range much farther from the coop. sometimes they go so high up on the ridge that I can’t see them, but I can rustling under the mountain laurels. They’ve also staked out hiding spots from the hawks, which I’m happy about.

Same, my Black Jersey Giants can hop a 4ft fence with clipped wings and they are hefty birds.

To me "go do the right thing" means build a taller fence and don't clip their wings...
