I think it would be wonderful to attend on Sunday, but unfortunately we are heading out for South Dakota for 3 weeks. Hope you all have a great get together!

Blue ribbon and a champion yes i think i wanna do this every year![]()
They are lovely! Thanks everyone! Ashes is a blue bearded silkie. I just went and checked on her and she was her normal cuddly self, with a normal crop. So she is still doing fine. Lol John!! I didn't see any extra lumber in the coop today, but if I had my husband would have been very happy! He is building a silkie coop for my four white girls, and the two blues. I got some pics today of her and Booker. So glad it has cooled off! ( I trimmed the quotes down a bit so I didn't take up a full page with this post. )![]()

UGH!!! We all may need to set up neighborhood crime watches for our poor birds! I just knew it had to be a dog, just from the manner of attack. They usually do it for sport, the chase, Not for eating.Animal lover and Megan- congrats on your wins!! Good job!!!
Vicki- my neighbor has bantam Cochins for sale. Want me to get a list?
Well I called the sherif to report the chicken masicure! Had a neighbor deputy call me back and come see me. Well guess what..... The dogs that got my 2 BO's a few months back......well they got out yesterday!!!!!! Duh!!!! What does it take to get thru people's heads!!!! I know some of you have had the same problems. I expect to lose some to wildlife but neighbors dogs is infuriating!!! Deputy told me to take care of it(shoot and kill) and dispose of the problem(bury)!!! I told him that was my plan!!! If we' only had a witness yesterday!!
Well my EE's egg laying is off to a great start. She has laid one every day for 4 days now. Beautiful green/blue coloured eggs too. All be it on the small side. The picture is two of her eggs and one from my RIR's. The bullseye on the big yolk is the epitome of fertile. Also noticed the two EE eggs were also fertile. Guess the Mille bantam and LF EE's can happen.. Who'd thunk it!![]()
Well I have 5 minutes to spare.. so here goes....
Loving all the new pictures... Realizing with the turkeys gone how much extra chicken space I have... I see mass amounts of bantam cochins in my future.
Jchnny - Hope the turkeys are doing well, I can not believe Momma laid an egg so soon. Guess she really wants those babies. My wee one really enjoyed himself at your place, would not stop talking about the goats, he thought they were great. He also had a soft spot for the little game birds too I noticed. It was a pleasure to be there and I am impressed with the vast amounts of birds you have. Keep us posted on the turkeys.
Mother - The stand is going great, taking up a lot of my daylight time. Do not remember it being this time consuming last year, but I guess that's a good thing, means we are doing something right. Your girls are looking stunning. Hopefully some outside time will heal Violet up in no time.
Pip - The pictures continue to make me melt.. So adorable. Looking at Po makes me think all my cochins are girls. None have a big combs (although they are now red). Keep using Po pictures to judge.
Kitinwest - Welcome to the thread!!
Brad - Gosh darn it stop offering your chickens... You know how hard I have to refrain myself from shooting you a PM to make real enquires.
Many congrats to all the have recently placed in the shows!
I know I have missed out bunches had 20 pages to scroll back through. I am trying. Not liking this working hard thing, interrupts my chicken time darn it.
Ugh I saw that too, I have about 70 in the bators now...or I would haveIf they havent already sold them, Ideal Poultry has a special on assorted guineas. Minimum order is 25 keets for $1.75 each! Must call them at 800-243-3257 to place order. This is a great deal!
I don't, but I would separate her until the molt is over. Is she heavy? she sounds like she may have a leg injury. Moulting shouldn't effect her walking.
WOW he is handsome!Okay so I may be in need of some large fowl hens. The two white chickens I thought were hens are roosters EE mixes. Im taking them back to Cluck Acres. Poor guy gave me 7 chicks and 2 were hens, but was gracious enough to take them backAnyway, now I have 3 wyandotte hens and a cochin with Big Gus my oversized teenaged wyandotte lol. Maybe 2 more girls to even out the large fowl flock so he isnt tearing up the four I have. Booker is now with his girls because Gus for sure rules the roost!

Its too late, you have the dreaded chicken math diseaseI have chicks hatching outside. Again. Bahahaha. Someone stop me
My girls are squatting!!! Happy day!
John, forgot to measure, but am really hoping you have a cooker base thing. our turkey fryer base is shot. I promise I will measure tomorrow!!I am going to the Great Mooresville Poultry Fest.
I am bringing a bunch of roosters for processing.
Anyone who wants to try their hand at the process and doesn't have a rooster can use one of mine.
Watch this youtube
Part 1 and part 2.
See you Sunday.
John
I went out to check on the chickens at about 9 pm and they were already ready for bed, of course. I have a lawn chair in there that i sit in when I visit them. I dont have any roosts up, because they are just in a temporary pen. I have 10 chickens in this pen. Their were 8 on the lawn chair! 3 on each arm and 2 on the back. It was really funny. And one one arm their was a cochin, then a brown leghorn, and then another cochin, needless to say the leghorn was squished. I will not be setting in that lawn chair anymore, because they get poop on it,it was broken anways, thats why I wasnt concerned about putting it in there. So I wnt and found another old broken lawn chair that I hadnt got rid of yet and put it in their pen. then I transferred some chickens on to the new lawn chair and brought the 2 that werent already on the lawn chairs over to them. They wanted over with the other but acted like they would die or something if they touched the ground lol. So there ended up being 5 chickens on each lawn chair. I just thought it was funny!
Quote: So sorry to hear of your BF's loss. Will be wonderful to meet you! Recipe swaps is an awesome idea.
I will have fresh goat milk soon, so I finally get to start making cheese and all sorts of good fresh stuff including yogurt!
O Shamo I think, isn't it?Also M2h, what in the world is that? It looks like the real chicken that rubber chickens are modeled after! Weird!!!
We have at least a dozen people signed up for Poultry Fest. I had someone ask me today if anyone else who is coming is into Silkies, as they are her favorites. I don't have any myself but I'm sure with the popularity of Silkies, others who are attending have them. I know that Janet (Jchny2000) has a lot of birds of many types and varieties. And others who are coming are all over the map as far as experience, breeds kept, and how they approach chicken keeping.![]()
So that made me think? Those of you who are coming, what are you excited about? What do you hope to learn? See? Do? I personally just want to meet as many 'Chicken Folk' as I can, talk shop, and make friends and contacts.
I am hoping my chicken journey is long and enjoyable, so meeting like minded people who are sailing on the ship along with me is top on my list. And meeting people who can make my chicken math worse isn't such a bad thing either.......![]()

And for those of you who can't make it, we'll see how it goes, but the thought of an annual event is noodling around in the back of my (admittedly porous) mind.......Awesome! (we will just use wax or crayon to seal that mind back up
)![]()
I have just started silkies this year, and mine are just "pet quality" but sweet none the less.
And yes, they DO perch! mine cuddle in with the 1 ft high perch group.
I have 2 roos for sure out of the 6, I plan to separate the group soon, as well as my oeg's & sebrights.
What am I most excited about...Same for me! meet, talk have fun, laugh! Eat good food![]()
Help others learn to do new things themselves and save some money by doing it.
I have learned so much, and met so many awesome people here!
Warning, telling everyone now, I am soft spoken so holler if I don't speak loudly enough!
Very excited, the day is almost here!
I agree with the sheriff. Any animal that comes on my property and acts the least bit aggressive gets taken care of. Good thing I don't have a gun, or any aggressive animals around me!Animal lover and Megan- congrats on your wins!! Good job!!!

I think you did the right thing by separating her. Especially since she's bleeding. Beyond that I don't know. Be sure she has food/water access.Anybody have ideas? She's getting worse and I brought her in for the night because her head is bleeding from the other hens
Vey nice looking rooster. How much does he crow?Okay so I may be in need of some large fowl hens. The two white chickens I thought were hens are roosters EE mixes. Im taking them back to Cluck Acres.
