Its saying DVD only we have streaming. So I watched it on youtube. The last part on the silkie momma had me in tears
I would have been out that door a LOT sooner with a rifle with the last part. Poor brave silkie!
Definitely shows the entire spectrum on keeping chickens, respectfully too.
I think I might of watched this. Is it where there is a silkie that is picked on and she wants to be a mom, and she finally hatches chicks. Then a hawk almost gets one og her chicks but it actually get her, and she ends up being okay. Was the silkie's name lizzy? It could of been a different video

lilmizscareall ~ On your photos, there appears to be a few of leg scales that look a little raised like scaly leg mites (my BR had them)-- However, If you can take a large sized photo tomorrow, it will help. bradselig could tell you if the legs look normal for a Cochin. Most of the online photos like this one (below) are of are severe cases, but this photo shows how the individual scales are pushed out and look larger since the mites burrow underneath. If they are scaly legs mites, they can be easily treated especially if they just started. I tried several methods, but the easiest/quickest was washing the feet and applying VetRx (oils that act as a natural pesticide and as a barrier to smother the mites) with an SOFT toothbrush (to get under the scales). I did that three days in a row and then weekly as needed. The mites like to also live in bedding and on chicken poop, so the coop must be cleaned daily. They can spread to other chickens, but the only other one that started to get them was my SLW, so we treated her and they quickly cleared up. Because the mites lay eggs much like fleas, you have to keep the coop clean and keep an eye on their legs. As far as lice, luckily mine haven’t had them, but I would think you’d see much more than a few. Here's a photo for ID. Personally, I'd rather not use Sevin dust on my chickens, but I haven't had to deal with a big outbreak either. Regardless, IMO, I like to know what the condition is before treating. But-- I don't have a large flock, so that makes that philosophy easier to follow.
Blegh! It's definitely not as bad as those at all. When I get the motivation to head to the garage, I'll post another photo. I'm going to head to tsc later and pic up a few items. They are not laying yet, so I'm going to dust them just to be sure. I read on here, somewhere, every 7 days for two weeks...right?

That is what they look like when it is extremly bad, thats when they are infested. They usually just look like tiny yellow fleas, thats about the best description I can think of. People dont realize this but I am sure every chicken has at least one on them, it is just not bad enough for you to be able to find them. There is no method to dusting just dust whenever you see some. Make sure not to get it in their eyes or mouth, or cuts if they have any

Went to the Ohio Nationals yesterday so I thought that I would share a couple of pictures that I took. I read on the Heritage Breed thread that there was close to 6000 birds there yesterday and 500 exhibitors.

Really enjoying everyone's chick and chicken pictures!

M2H - Your Bonbon looks like a little, round, chocolate bonbon. She is so cute! Even my DH was interested in her.

bradselig - Love the pictures of your chickies! The different feather colors and patterns are beautiful. Almost makes me want to rewrite my Chicken Want List yet again!

kabhyper1 -Lavender and Blueberry are such a lovely couple. Their chicks will be gorgeous! I liked the pictures of Blueberry trying to be friends with Gus and of Lavender performing her motherly duties. Her 'stink eye' is a pretty mild one.

Our little kitty, Toodles, passed away unexpectedly Thursday night, and I am broken-hearted. He was a round, cuddly little fellow with a funny personality, a tiny snuffly nose that snored, and a bit of moxie. He joins sweet Freddie, who passed recently, and dear Pookie who died in December. It has been a sad year for cats. They all are very much missed.

lilmizscareall - Treating your birds for the leg mites and lice won't hurt them if they are clean. They aren't the sort of treatments where you would have to worry about them having bad side effects for your chickens or about bugs building up resistance. If you'd feel safer, go ahead and treat them. If there are a few lice or mites, you may head off a worse infestation. Every louse and mite will produce plenty of family members to keep itself company.
