INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello all Hoosiers! Though I am now living in the Bluegrass state I consider myself almost a Hoosier. I was born and raised in Anderson, In and retired from Delco-Remy. I still have family living in Anderson. I am a retired farmer now and started raising chickens and turkeys. Though this is my last year for the turkeys! Too much trouble babysitting them. They like to wonder too much! This is my 3rd day on this web site and must say I do like it. Well will get off and will be checking on you all often.

On a regular basis, it's gone through my mind to send you a PM to see how you're doing, but then I've become distracted and forgotten. (old age) That's great that you can visit your chickens! How is your senior year going?
He's a Swedish Flower Hen :D
Leahs Mom ~ That's what I thought, but then I decided that a Hen couldn't be a rooster!

Oops, here's the heated waterer I saw at TSC.

odbo9 ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! We're glad to hear from you. We have a member from Michigan, I live across the river from Kentucky, and others live near Louisville. We're all in the "vicinity" so it doesn't really matter. Click on the INDIANA… link under my post to check out our members' list and other info. We love photos, stories, and questions (although being a retired farmer, we should be asking you questions!)

As far as taking apart a heated dog bowl, it wasn't designed to be taken apart and used with a different water container.
Wanted to say...
On taking the base out of the water bowl - when done properly, there is nothing exposed any differently than it is in the dog bowl. It should actually be a little better contained if done well.

That's why I chose the dog bowl bases as they are specifically wired for that use. In essence, It is using a bowl that is not as deep as the original plastic bowl with no change in element exposure.

I'd disagree lol. I have heard of and seen pictures of that waterer catching fire. You can see the cord going into the base at the bottom. The cord is removeable, thus allowing moisture to easily come in contact with the electrical connection. Taking apart the heated water bowl, all the electrical connections are completely covered a rounding the heating element. Also, just to play devils advocate. If bulbs aren't made to be in an enclosed fixture, why do ceiling fixture, headlights on a car, etc have no issues with the bulb even though those situations also have bulbs in an enclosed environment?

Oh I've been doing good been busy lately and senior year has been ok teachers are being jerks

If you get any extra of the BR I would be interested in getting some. The chicks I got from you are doing great and getting so big. I think that the 2 Marans may both be pullets but don't know for sure. I'll have to get pictures soon.

Just a reminder, I'll be going to Anderson, IN sometime tomorrow afternoon. If another is interested I still have a few chicks I'd like to sell (legbar cockerels, rhodebar cockerel, silkie cockerel, NNs) that I can bring with to meet up. I will be letting them go cheap to make room for other chickens. Also if anyone in northern Indiana is interested in Janet's (jchny2000) wyandottes, I'd be willing to transfer them up north to the Huntington area for you to pick up. Just get with me if you're interested in any of my birds and Janet if her birds to arrange payment (I would also be willing to pay her and you pay me at pickup).

I also believe M2H, offered to deliver the wyandottes down south as well for you southern folk!
