Bless her heart and congrats!

Hello fellow BYCers!
Just wanted to say hi and that i am still alive! I have missed you guys but i have just been kinda busy and a couple of days ago I was like 4 to 4 1/2 weeks behind on posts. I was able to get through a lot of pages while I was selling things at a craft fair the other day. I still have quite a few more pages to go but I am gaining. I think my girls have thought it better not to lay any eggs while it has turned cold the past couple of weeks. My coop is way to small for any kind extra lighting and i'm so scared of coop fires so I have just wrapped it in a tarp. The girls seem to be doing ok so far.

any hoo.... hope everyone's saturday is going well!!

we have missed ya! good to hear from you!

I want a nice day tomorrow instead of the predicted storms. We are so close to opening up / adding pullets to the new coop.

Ugh yes, high winds and storms. I was hoping to process tomorrow. May have to do it in the detached garage.
The winds are coming in already, pretty strong here.

lots of wind here too. not the messiest parts but the defeathering and cleaning took place in our detached garage today. It worked out nice as DH wet himself up a seat and a table right in line with the other stuff he needed. This was his third processing session and so far it was much more streamlined than the others. Still everytime on processing morning he goes on and on about how he is not going to kill the birds at least 30 minutes of trying to change processing day to later in the month.

Just got my young broody brood settled in her broody-busting pen. This is not a happy broody brood.

My speckled Sussex, Poggy, apparently disapproves of unauthorized broody brooding.

Poor Margie doesn't know what she's ever done to deserve such treatment!

(Ugh, bad cell phone pictures...)
pipd ~ I'd love to have a broody hen! I'm sending a message to Poggy about how to unlock the cage.

She looks attractive even when she's laying an egg! Is she hungry? Yellow and orange are appetite stimulants.

Backyard Bitten ~ Good to hear from you again! I noticed you "lurking" the other day. Do you make crafts or were you working for someone else?
Extra lighting ~ Several members have been talking about using LED rope lights inside their coops and while I was out shopping yesterday I happened to notice LED light sticks that had a hard plastic case and used batteries instead of having to plug them in. Just thought I'd mention them in case anyone is interested.

ellymayRans ~ What a beautiful boy! -- and cool-looking Silkie.

M2H you need a lovely silkie! They are just too precious, and lay a good sized medium egg for such a little girl.
big_smile.png
You know, you could get a silkie and a bantam cochin at the same time and have buddies!
wink.png

Don't let their size fool you either. Butters, my buff roo, takes on my nasty BBW turkeys and they RUN from him!
He was the brood rooster when they were poults and he imprinted on them. What a fiesty lil guy!
Now, no one messes with Butters

The turkeys are HUGE!
I put all my grow out babies in his care, he is ferocious protecting them. He even charges me if i pick one up

UGH I am as bad! Not on purpose just seems Iike I plan, and something comes up. I needed these roosters gone a month ago!
Tired of feeding them, and now they are fighting my main roos, Red, Bruce and Rebel. Although Rebel is now on the freezer list too
somad.gif

I let him out of jail, and right back abusing my hens! He mates one, stands on them, and pecks their heads!
Will not leave them alone or let them go! back to jail for Rebel

Had his last chance, Bruce will now be the only Australorp Roo.
Plans were for tomorrow, but we may be getting calves in the morning,

FINALLY!!!

Hoping to share pics if its happens.

Delawaremommy ~ Thank you, she is adorable. I bought her from chickenscratchpoultry.com just an hour or so away from me in McLeansboro, IL. Normally Bonbon is the brave one compared to Adeline, but in the evening when they first get in the coop, Bonbon likes to hide under Adeline in a nesting box. Adeline looks like she's sitting on a huge mound of eggs! After the Five Mean Hens are done arguing over their special places on the perches, Bonbon pops out and sits next to Adeline.

This evening, I took this picture of Adeline with Bonbon hiding underneath-- only Bonbon's rear-end is sticking out!

jchny ~ Butters sounds like a character! He needs to be in charge of Rebel. Maybe that would be humiliating enough for Rebel that he will straighten up!
Calves! Exciting! Keep us posted.

I wasn't interested in them either at first. The more I heard about them, I was really curious.
They occur in many common breeds, and am reading a lot more about them.
Now, I am excited to have 2! Really unusual, its the ugly cute at first to look at, then you see the whole bird.
The roo definitely has almost a coral color in his neck.
DH said "what is that a buzzard"
lau.gif
He was sending texts with the pics to all our friends
roll.png

my dad, oh my, he couldn't stop laughing, "what is that thing" and "what happened to it"
They are really comical outgoing birds, the roo is all boy, bossy lil guy, but lots of personality.
The hen (pretty sure, thanks Brad!) is very sweet and quiet. She hopped right on my arm when I opened the box.
I guess I just like to learn more about each unusual breeds, there is so many.

That is just too sweet, am so glad those 2 girls have bonded so well.
I hate to give Rebel up, he is not people aggressive. Really love him, but he is horribly cruel to the hens.
My DD found him at a gas station terrified and running around trying to hide.
He will stay in "jail" until we can set a separate breeding pen for them, if that's not the problem he has to go
sad.png

I just can't keep an aggressive bird here. He has made several of the girls combs bloody in just one day of being back to the main flock.
