INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Flock introduction help!
Our quarantine is over, but the new group is still sleeping in the garage. For the last couple days the new group has been free ranging while the old group stays in the run. Yesterday they've discovered each other on their own. Nothing exciting really. Also, right before the storm the new birds were trying to shelter under the coop overhangs.
ANYWAYS...
Group A-2 Roos and a hen, only a few months old.
Group B-Bantams, a Roo and 3 hens, about 5 months old.
B came from a group that had 2 Roos and a few other hens. There were no squabbles, but they were all raised together.

I'm hoping the Banty Roo is dominant enough, that he should stay at the top of the order. He is really good with his girls, not even doing a real crow yet!
So...after reading through the forums, I'm getting nervous about introduction and the pecking order. I was going to let them socialize through the run for the next week and switch them into the main coop Friday night.
Thoughts, suggestions, etc?

Other than that, would anyone be interested in a Roo? One is a Birchen Maran, the other is a Swedish Flower Hen, came from bradselig!
They will inevitably, be rehomed or culled... :(

That one building in Marion County shouldnt even count. It was being held up by 2x4's and was only a shell of a building!
Good morning all!  Lebanon got hit really hard by the storm.  I had a tornado touch down and pass along the back pasture fence.  My poor neighbor saw the whole thing.  We got very lucky, no damage.  I do know that one of the tornado's was right in the vicinity of Old Salt - has anyone heard from him?  I was thinking about him last night when I heard where the damage was.  I was watching the news this morning and was getting really irritated by the lack of news in Lebanon.  It kept getting mentioned as one of the hardest hit areas, but instead of showing the damage or doing any real reporting, let's show you the ONE building that got destroyed in Marion County.  Soooo frustrating!

And we have power!!!!
Congrats. Ours went out sometime during the night. I did not think it would be a big deal as it did not get that cold. But nope I lost my favorite chick. I guess they got scared of the dark and started a pile. Splash, my splash colored sumatra was on bottom this morning. I'm so glad I got a hold of the breeder in greencastle to get on the spring list. I'm sure Stony's sumatra's are great but I am having the worst time trying to get a mini flock of them.Between the PO not handling the eggs right and then the timing of the hatch with the cold weather and storms, I'm left with 2 black sumatra chicks and a rooster from the summer hatch. I have almost spent enough trying to get these chicks that I could have rented a car and drove to NY to pick up chicks. Well maybe not but it sure seems that way.

FarkerFarms ~ I hear ya! Like I said, all we seem to hear about is Kentucky and Illinois-- never anything about north of us, which is basically the whole State of Indiana! Does anyone happen to have Old Salt/John's phone #? Maybe racinchickins has his info from last summer's chicken get-together.

So sorry to hear about all of the damage! At least damage can be fixed, although it's a pain. Hope no one has been hurt.
jchny ~ Poor Cassy-- first her car wreck and now her fiancé's house was wrecked!

CRSelvey posted: I just finished reading Once Upon a Flock and it was terrific! The lady has a good sense of humor and an interesting way of telling her story mixed with very cute pics.

CRSelvey ~ It's such a relatable story, too. Most of us have been there. And I've always wondered why books for adults usually don't include illustrations! I might be biased, but it's not like illustrations are just for kids.

That is really good news about Old Salt. Thank you for posting

M2H- I agree and thank you for the suggestions on winterization.

I have read many conflicting posts on hay vs straw around chickens. I have put up the heavy plastic around the base of my coop to keep out some drafts but it's just not pretty. I want to out some bales around the bottom to hide the plastic an further add to the insulation factor. I can use straw on the yard in the spring but other than that, are there any good reasons for one over the other?
