INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Brad, I am in the same situation. I sent two boxes on November 20. One arrived in California on the 26th, I believe. The other arrived in Idaho on the 29th with no tracking updates for days. I have never had this happen before. Both were sent Priority Mail. I spent 25 minutes on hold with the USPS customer service before I finally hung up. I will try again tomorrow. I plan to reship, but not before Christmas.
 
Priority is not a guaranteed delivery date, only priority express is guaranteed. I sent off a claim on the website only to get a generic email response from my "postmaster" apologizing. I typically use regional rate A boxes or the 12x12x8.5 priority boxes. I've found they are sometimes cheaper than the regional rate boxes! I always ship priority but may start offering priority express as well.


What a generic way of getting out of paying. I did not know that the time frame was not a done deal kind of promise. After all I expect what is advertised.

I found the basic info about priority on the USPS site and it does not say one thing about shipping times not being guaranteed. BUT in their FAQ area there is a chart that says only the priority express time is guaranteed.
Still I would think the insurance should cover the loss. The eggs were damaged from aging but still damaged.
I'm sure the USPS might not agree though.

It's so frustrating. Just for giggles, here is a letter you'll probably receive in mail or email lol.

Where it is noted that employees are making frequent errors, we schedule remedial training.

The distribution system of The Postal Service is massive, and we sometimes disappoint our customers and ourselves. But, as a public service, we realize we have an obligation to hold the trust of our customers by providing good, reliable mail service.We are working very hard to maintain service standards and to provide the best possible service at the lowest possible price.

I agree. They say it's not guaranteed but yet after 5 days they consider it late. But they don't do anything about it bring late! I actually got a call from a worker at my post office wanting more information. While talking with her, she came right out and said that the poster master wanted to take care of my complaint and will just send an apology letter. The worker was upset by this as she felt something needed to be done and an actual investigation take place to find out what why the delay. Looks like the post master won and just sent the apology letter.

I would keep repeating that the items shipped ~ the eggs were damaged and see if they will provide at least something back. I typically try 3 times with call centers before accepting a no you get nothing answer. As a last resort maybe settle for a USPS gift card. That always tends to go over well at retail stores.

I don't know what t do... Any advice? Here's my issue: I took in a hen from a friend who wasn't taking proper care of her. I have her. Quarantined in a small store bought coop. Yesterday when I went out to feed Big Momma and Sassy (who by the way is gained most of her strength back and feathers are filling in very well) I called them--"here bitty bitty bitty"-- all of a sudden at my feet is a pretty little hen, a production red I think but very darkly feathered, looking up at me as if to say- ok I'm here what do you feed around this place. I called the two neighbors that I know have chickens, none of them were missing any. So I put her in a small coop (that was not in vry good repair) by herself. This morning I went out to check on all my bitties and when I called t them to come get their grain... There comes a pretty little white hen. She looked like shed been starved!!! Where are these girls coming from and what can I do with them???
minmin ~ That is very bizarre. I agree with bradselig that they could be storm victims. Considering the white hen's condition, she could have been lost for a while just like amwchicken's EE that returned home after a few weeks. Or CCCHICKENS might be right about people dumping them although you'd think if they weren't caring for them, they'd just kill them instead of going to the effort of finding them a possible home. Did your friend have other chickens that found their way over to a better home? If you think the lost hens are a result of windy storms, besides posting Lost & Found flyers, you could post it on the nearest Craigslist town. If a recent storm caused a lot of damage and its winds blew debris far away, sometimes cities will set up a Facebook page or site where people can post lost and found items. Please keep us posted. That's an interesting case.

It was so nice and warm today, so I took some photos of Bonbon, my English Chocolate Bantam Orpington. If anyone is interested in the breed, these photos show her shape from a few different angles. She is approx. 7 months old. No eggs yet, but that's okay. Bonbon is a fun little pet.

I do actually have a question to post today. Have any of you ever fed pumpkin to your chickens? We have some left over pumpkins from Halloween. We always let the girls draw a face on them and after Halloween we cut them up and cook them down to pulp for pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread and such. (we don't like to waste food) We have enough pumpkin pulp in the freezer this year and I was thinking about just feeding them to the chickens. How would one prepare the pumpkins to be fed to the chickens?
