INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hmm guess I'll never really know for sure. She is a pretty girl though. She seems kind of wild??? Doesn't like people is kind stand offish and tries ti run or get away when I open the pen to feed and water her. Is there a trick to taming her down that I don't know?
Sounds like she has had a rough time of it. I would give her some adjustment time with you. Scratch works wonders. I trip over my chickens if I have a cup of scratch in my hand. My EE Peaches flies up on my srm if she sees me carrying anything now. It's like chicken crack. :) I would just sit in a chair and scatter some scratch around your feet. Eventually she will relate you to treats and come on her terms.

Her little pen isn't big enough for me to sit in with her and I don't wNt to let her out to forage yet because she's too skittish and is used to being out on her own. I'm afraid she'd take off and disappear. I'd feel awful if a coyote or bear got her. (There aren't many hawks in this area for some reason) would it be cruel oft to keep her penned up for a while until she is calmer and more docile?

Can you put scratch in your hand and let her eat out of it? I would just let her get used to you being around before trying too much interaction with her. She is probably just scared still.

She is not going to get more docile and clam just by keeping her penned up. You need to spend time with her to make her used to her. I would recommend dried meal worms as a treat

I have bn trying to get her used to me, I don't want her to be panicked or scared though so when she starts fluttering around I close the door and walk away for a while. Then later when she's calmed again bring a different treat and try to get her to take it from me again. I think if I could get her and hold her sit with her in my lap and just stroke her she would see I mean her no harm. I am just afraid of giving her a heart attack trying to grab for her. ( and giving me one too) lol

Minmin- loved the pics!! My white leghorn , who was raised with many others, is just flighty! The others will come and she still won't. I think some breeds are just that way. My sex link looks just like the black/ brown one, love the white spotted one.

I put one of those tube - string lights in my barn. Still need to get a timer but I'm getting 6-10 eggs a day from 19, and 3-4 are still coming off of molting. Last couple of weeks I was getting 12 a day, every other day. And I have a silkie who's broody!! She doesn't even have any eggs to sit on but will stay on the nest almost all day!!

I love our string light. It's the perfect time of year to find a cheap timer. We have ours come on at 6 am and goes of at 8. My 9 girls are giving us 7 eggs a day. Lavender still has kids to take care of, and Godiva the Australorp is molting and hates life right now. So the extra hour must be helping. We cant eat the eggs right now since we wormed them 3 weeks ago. So I am chucking 7 eggs a day into the woods lol.

Lol I just went back through the conversations for the night...EGADS I talk too much! Sorry just a lonely old woman looking for company.
Danand that black/brown one was passed off to me with her hatchling sister as Barred Rock. I've since learned that everyone says she is probably a black Sexlink. That's fine though she is such a sweet girl. The spotted one "Dazzle" is a new one to me she just showed up here one day last week. So I waited til nightfall caught her roosting and brought her into the fold. She is in Quarantine until I am sure she's healthy enough to integrate but want to tame her some before that too. She is a beauty!
