INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Late night medical report ~ Jchny/Janet went to the doctor today and is doing better. I'll let her fill you in when she catches up, but I wanted to let everyone know that she is on the mend.

Late night weather report ~ We had our first snow-- a light layer now sandwiched between another layer of ice since we're having another round of freezing rain. Hope everyone is careful getting out on the roads tomorrow. Stay safe!

Please don't put heat tape into the feed.  They're made to be wrapped around the outside of a pipe not inside a wet area.  But you could wrap it on the outside of the container!

Yes.  Thank you.

Opportunity to eat from the compost and kitchen scraps, freedom to range for food in addition to chicken feed backup.  Those all seem to make for good laying.

Somewhat unrelated but - how is your hawk activity there?

I haven't seen any hawks for more than a few seconds. We have crows and vultures in abundance. There is an owl, but the chickens are tucked away before he goes out hunting.

What is this about everyone having a bird from Bradselig? I don't have one. Now I feel left out. ;)

How are all of you southerners doing with the storm? I hope everyone is okay!

These little inquiring minds would like to know if their feathered cousins are doing alright!
Sigh...I thought I was pretty clear to both you and Brad that you are only to post ugly pictures of them doing undesireable things! You have got to STOP posting these ADORABLE pictures! it's making me crazy!!!

My coop has an optimal chicken per space factor and I have already reached it.

IWANTASILKIEIWANTASILKIEIWANTASILKEI!!! AAAAACK!

I guess a festive Christmas red sweater wouldn't be such a good idea. The crocheted contraption that Cricket's grandma created looks much more pliable/comfortable than one made of a more crisp type of fabric.
I saw this, and thought it would be awesome! Since Santa Chicken only comes one night a year, maybe this red sweater would be safe for that long?

Yep Indian Prairie. Renae is coming Saturday to get her fluff balls. We also have a female alpaca that has a bit of a spitting issue, so she is bringing a spit mask for us to try. She has 6 RIR hens that she will integrate the silkies with in the spring.

Yeah, our boys like to have the occasional spit fight -- especially when they get some fresh hay. It's not like we don't give enough for each of them & they're gonna starve -- just like little kids not wanting to share! And our one dog tends to clash with one of the alpacas and every now and then he's covered in bits of hay from being spit on -- we know he's been barking at Hershey too much. And it's easy to tell which stall is the alpacas' because there's bits of hay stuck to the walls all over! But they've never spit at us...
