INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

It's lightly snowing again here in Indy. It's pretty but the girls aren't impressed. They prefer to come out only for sunshine or snacks. We've got a little fodder system figured out and they get half a flat of fodder at a time.

Peaceful Walls ~ Thanks for posting all of the photos of your wonderful place and beautiful creatures! I still want to know why I am freezing in a winter wonderland and your photos taken today in northern Indiana look like a sunny September day! You have some happy looking chickens and alpacas. :)
Hey, now. lol. I live in northern indiana and there has been snow on the ground for 4 or 5 days. Lots of frozen waterers around here

Yes I like the funny stories about the chickens and the snow. Ours would always roost outdoors in their run, and the coop poop board was almost always clean. Now, suddenly, that poop board is full. Who wants to come over and show me how to clean it lol?

My girls seem to be eating an awful lot today! I have a 4" PVC pipe feeder that's 41/2' tall. I put 2 1gal buckets full of feed mixed with calcium and grit into it this morning about 730. I just went out to check the waterers and well over half the feed is gone! That much feed normally lasts 3-5 days. I know they eat a lot during the winter but this is ridiculous!!! There are 19 of them eating out of that feeder but I still think it's too much. Am I wrong? Should I cap off the feed until just before they go to roost for the night?

JHNY - So good to see you you back on the thread! It just isn't the same without you. You were definitely missed. Glad you are feeling better.

Pipd - Sorry to hear about your beautiful Cricket. I know she was a favorite of yours abd her death was so sudden and unexpected.

I have been enjoying everyone's chickens-in-the-snow stories. Poor chooks! I sympathize with them for not wanting to put their naked chicken feet in the snow. Makes me think of the Poor Little Match Girl.

Speaking of fairy tales, have you seen Jan Brett's new version of Cinderella where the parts are all played by chickens? It is called Cinders and is well worth checking out with your child or grandchild. The artwork is just beautiful, like in all her books.
toodlesmom ~ Thanks for the info about the book! She's an amazing illustrator, and I think I'll buy that for myself. Amazon has it on sale, too. I'm posting photos for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Below: Back cover shows the Fairy Godmother -- A silkie!

Maybe some of you can copy these fashions for your saddles.

If you're this famous, you get a tour bus. That would make a great chicken tractor!
