INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The odds are looking like it is a roo.  His age is just right for my flock right now but I don't really need him, he is more of a want, a nice big want.

Are you coming south anytime soon that we could could meet half way?
yea if I dig through the feathers, I can see some very shiny ones coming in! I don't have any plans at this time of traveling south. If i do I'll let you know!

It actually didnt rain here today unless is sprinkled real quick and I missed it. I can't stand rain, I'm ready for it to stay away for a long time. My chickens love the rain though.

Yesterday I went to Marion. I got to go to Big R. Drove past lowes to see that the O looked different from the other letters. I am guessing the plastic blew of it or something. Went to sirloin Stockade and saw the Christmas lights.

My chickens love it too, especially the silkies/showgirls! They looked like drown rats.
Yes I'm not sure what happened to the "O" cover, but it sure looks trashy how it is! It's been missing for quite sometime.

Mine look so pathetic once they get all went. And of course if it is wet their mud. I think my chickens are part duck and pig. My polish is about the worst one when it comes to getting wet, dont have any silkies. The missing cover definatley attracts attention, maybe thats the reason behind them taking so long to get it fixed.

So I guess that leads into my next question, anyone want a blrw cockerel or two lol. I'd be looking at getting rid of #2 and #3.
bradselig ~ I like SallyinIndiana's term of "rehoming" rather than "getting rid of."

It's kind of like saying "processing" instead of "killing."

kabhyper ~ That Gus has perfect looking feet, too! He and Jules make a lovely couple.
My chickens don't mind rain, but they hated the storms with heavy rain that lasted all day and night. They stood at both back doors, made a bunch of racket, and hoped to sneak in. They don't understand why they can't go in and out like the cats do.

Lol thanks M2H, he now has 2 inch spurs but they are blunt, so I'm not worried about them yet. He is a big boy now too. Sweetest rooster ever. He and the other 13 chickens in the flock have been confined to their 18 x 4 coop and run for the past couple of weeks due to weather, and the hawk that has taken up residence in the tree above the coop. Gus has been a gentleman. He is kind to the 11 week olds, and Blueberry and him still get along great. I feel fortunate to have boys that get along.

I'm looking into the impacts of flax seed and soy in the chicken feed on the number of yolks in an egg. I am wondering if the additional estrogen from having both in a feed could be causing double yolks.
I think some of you have looked into the soy increasing the estrogen levels and possibly the flax seed too. Any great starting points to show that either or both soy / flax increase estrogen by a significant amount?
I have found studies involving humans and using soy to increase estrogen in order to release more eggs. But it would be great to have something about chickens
The estrogen issue is one of the reasons I don't feed soy or flax. (Also one of the reasons I like to avoid using plastics around food as much as possible...xenoestrogens.)

I may have some info somewhere on that...just won't be around much the next few days.

LOL about they don't understand why they can't go in and out. Chickens, we never said they were smart! You girls can't go in, you'd make a big poopy mess.
