INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Anyone else wishing they had a heated driveway? It might be flooded but no snow sounds so good right about now. The weather sites says up to 4 more inches tonight for my area. That is going to be interesting to deal with in sub 0F weather tomorrow morning.

You can have them for free - but only if you give me a couple of their offspring when the time comes for me to get back into chickens :)  I'd love to be able to follow them and I know you will post pictures!!!!
I can definitely do that! Just let me know when you are wanting to downsize. Maybe we can turn this into another chicken train across Indiana! Lol. I'd be glad to transfer some chickens up north for anyone else who is interested

We have a foot of snow now and we are just at the halfway point of the storm. They said on the news that they could issue blizzard warnings, and our county in under a state of emergency. My husband is plowing in Fort Wayne. I am drinking my wine and trying not to worry.

We just had a blizzard warning issued for us (Elkhart co.) Kosciusko & St. Joseph counties also have the warning now. When the system snow stops some of the area up here will have lake effect snow kick in on top of everything else. The handy dandy path I shoveled out to the barn earlier is now non-existent, along with the driveway which was cleared earlier.

Are your pacas going to be warm in the crap temps we are going to get? I think ours are good to go, who knows though. We aren't used to these temps. I wonder if Whitley county will get the blizzard warning since we are right next to kos. my mom is in warsaw.

I'm going to be re-homing a bunch probably. I inherited a couple more horses and it is just too much for me right now without help :( I have pretty much reached my breaking point with this Apocalypse storm. I'll give them to good homes for free (don't want them slaughtered). Let me know if anyone is interested in:

4 EE hens that lay blue eggs
3 Barred Rocks
2 Red Sex Links
1 Welsummer
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pullet (she is stunning - out of Jerry Foley's stock)
2 Black Cochins LF (unsure of genders - thought they were a cockerel and pullet but not sure)
1 EE/Silkie Roo - he is small for a Roo, about the size of the hens and is very nice (not friendly but respectful)
I sent you a pm I will take them if no one has beat me to them already

I'm hoping they'll be OK. They're in a smaller stall area than yours so they need to stay closer together. We piled a bunch of straw in there & also got a heated water bucket for them. Don't they originate from the mountains in Peru which would have a cold climate? We're hoping that their cold tolerance is built into their DNA somewhere! I'm worried about them the least since they have a fiber blanket covering them. I'm a bit more concerned about our smaller rabbits and the chickens -- well, all the animals, really. I can't wait for the next 48 hours to be over!!!

CCCCCCCCHICKENS told me about this thread, I'm glad to chat and share with people from my home state. I live in terre haute In. I have 21 hens of different breeds. and am looking to expand. I want to add EE's about 15 and 5 or 6 blue Ameraucana's and 5 or 6 Wheaten Ameraucana's and some Olive EE's too. got a question... is there other colors in the Ameraucana's? I've been researching and those are the only tow I have run into so far. and I just found out BR's lay a pink tinted egg so I might get a few of those too.
I also have 3 Horses and 5 Goats and 6 dogs including 2 LGD's that are in love with the Goats...lol
My grandmom has had chickens all her life the most I can remember her having at 1 time is 100, they all were her kids.
I started my own flock last year when I was at an auction and this guy was going to kill to EE's ( didn't know what they were at the time ) right there!!!!! cause they were older hens and no one bid on them. so I gave him 5.00 bucks each and got them home and they lived in the garage till DH built me a coop. That started a fever I still have not kicked... lol
Glad to see you found your way over here! There are 8 accepted colors of Ameraucanas. Blue, black, white, wheaten, blue wheaten, buff, silver, and brown red. Then there are some project colors such as splash and lavendar (many others those are just the ones that get the most attention). The link I gave you on the thread you started tells ou all sorts of information about them and lets you see pictures www.ameraucana.org .I raise BBS ameraucanas, they are great birds ou will love them. I also have goats. (plus other animals). ANways welcome!

Thanks for th info. Where do you by peat at? I've seen it in craft stores but that would be outrageous to try t put that expensive stuff in a chicken dust bath! The wood ash I use is out of my fireplace, I buy it from a tree trimmer that is local. No cut lumber used.
I get it at my local Menards in their garden area. They have it in the winter too but they may have to bring it down from one of the higher shelves for you.

Any garden place or places that keep garden items, etc. should have it.

Package is similar in size to one of the bales of pine chips from TSC. Price probably varies according to area but mine ranges from $4.99 - $6.99.
